Imagine your mind as a garden. Positive thoughts are the beautiful flowers that brighten your life. Negative thoughts are the ugly weeds that spread and suffocate your happiness, by cutting off sunlight. Just like plants we need sunlight to thrive.

Negative thoughts can take the form of fear, self-doubt, guilt, anger, blame, insecurity, prophesying or any thought that makes you feel bad!

You need to kill the ANTS :(Automatic Negative Thoughts)

Ant # 1 Fear – Defined as False Events Appearing Real, is the number one reason that we don’t achieve success in this life. Fear of the unknown, that feeling of uncertainty. Fear is the bottom feeder of all the negative emotions. When you are living in Fear, you feel very bad and you attract more bad things into your experience.

One way to Kill this ANT is to imagine what is the worst that could happen. Face it in your mind. Take it to your subconscious and dream about it. Once you face it, it loses its hold on you. Talk back to this fear. Move up the emotional scale with anyone of the negative emotions. Eg. You can become angry that your spouse is treating you a certain way, instead of being afraid of being alone if you left the relationship. See yourself alone and loving it.

There is also a positive side to this ANT.

If you are afraid of losing something be it your spouse, your job, your home; it tells you that these things are important to you and that you should do everything in your power to keep them. For example: if you fear losing your spouse, then you should work on keeping the marriage fresh, you should keep yourself attractive and don’t let yourself get to 300 lbs, serve your spouse and make him/her feel special.

Ant # 2 Self-doubt – or lack of self-confidence is a very powerful ANT. One of the most essential character traits to have is self-confidence. It is sexy and it allows you to command attention. When this ANT is telling you that you are not good enough, you will not get that promotion because you don’t have a degree, for example; talk back to it and tell it that you are the best person for the job and that it is their loss if they don’t hire you. If you don’t, you will never move from where you are today. You will never be an over achiever or the top sales person on a team! You need self-confidence to achieve success.

ANT # 3 Guilt – Guilt is a result of your conscience telling you that you have violated your own core value. It is telling you that you did something that is moving you away from your predetermined goal. You can talk back to this ANT by telling it that you have recognized your mistake and that you have forgiven yourself. Don’t let the guilt and shame arrest you and keep you in bondage. A lot of people wash away this guilt with drugs and alcohol.

ANT # 4 Anger – Anger ANTS keep telling you that someone had no right to do something. The more you think about it, the angrier you get. Psychologists say that anger is like an iceberg. What you see is just the tip, that there is more ice for miles below the surface. If you are conscious that you have an Anger problem, then you should understand (with the help of a Therapist) what is causing your anger. You can talk back to this ANT and tell it that you cannot control what someone else does; the only person you can control is yourself.

ANT # 5 Blame – this ANT can be very destructive. When you blame others for the results you are having in your life, you assume the role of the victim. As the victim, you have no power to facilitate change. You talk back to this ANT by becoming a Player. As a Player you take back control. Regardless of what the dealer is showing, you can still win! You are not the product of your circumstances. Everyone has a story. It is how you handle adversity and challenges that define and grow you. In my book “Out of the Snares” I never blamed my childhood abuser. I instead chose to look at the positives I learned from that experience. Life is full of good and evil. Every evil person has a good side and every good person has an evil side.

ANT # 6 Prophesying – the prophesying ANT talks to you about what it knows about the future! It tells you things like “you are never going to close that sale”. “The customer is going to string you along and they will never buy” or “it is never going to work out”. You can talk back to this ANT by declaring that IT cannot predict the future. It does not have a crystal ball!

Once you learn to recognize the ANTS and learn to deal with them by sending them packing, then you can replace them with Positive Thoughts. Positive thoughts are like flowers, they beautify your garden and bring smiles to anyone who stops and pays attention to their beauty; in a similar way positive thoughts make you beautiful to anyone who you have interpersonal relations with. But the beauty of Positive Thoughts is that they make you feel good. Like attracts like and before you know it, you have an abundance of good things becoming part of your experience.

I’ve seen firsthand how dangerous it is to let the weeds of negative thinking take over your mind. Just like in a natural garden, it you left the weeds unattended, they thrive more than the flowers or plants. In a similar way when you allow the ANTS to run free in your head; they snuff out all the joy from your life. All you then see is darkness, because they are blocking the sunlight from getting in!

Principle # 3 Let the Universal Laws of Attraction Work For You

This is a big topic. There is a lot written on the Laws of Attraction. In my book “Out of the Snares” I embrace this Law fully. I also expected and allowed what I was attracting to show up. I lived consciously believing that ..

I tell the story in my book “Out of the Snares” of me coming to the USA under the USA Free trade agreement, which allows Canadians and Mexicans to open up branch offices of current businesses in the USA; but when I got to the United States, I decided I wanted the benefits of being an American. I told myself “It would be nice if I found a husband.” As soon as I concentrated on that possibility, the Universe started offering up to me suitors for me to choose from!

But there is more to becoming a deliberate creator, than just asking and receiving for everything you want. We all know it does not work like that. Some of you have been asking the Universe and praying to God for years, and you are still waiting to manifest your desires into your experience.

Here are 5 ways to help with being a deliberate creator and invoking the Laws of Attraction.

1. Offer no resistance:
You have to offer no resistance to what you are asking for. e.g. In the above example. If when the thought, came to me to find a husband and I had a bad experience with a prior husband and I told myself that most men are no good, then essentially what I am doing is saying on one hand I would like a husband and on the other hand, I don’t want a man because they are nothing but trouble.

2. You have to allow it to come in.
Look at your list of things you want to attract in your life as people outside the walls of one of the ancient cities. They can’t come in unless someone opens the gates of the city. In a similar way, you have to quiet your mind and stop confusing the Universe with all the stuff in your head. Find time every day to meditate and allow the Universe to work for you.

3. You have to believe

Faith is the evidence of things unseen. The bible teaches that if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can say to the mountain get up and go into the sea. Logically and in the physical world that is not possible but Jesus was teaching us that “If you believe you can do anything.” That is truth. I have seen amputees climb to the top of Mount Everest, I have seen people swim across lakes, I have seen human beings defy incredible odds to survive and achieve. It all starts in the mind, if you think you can.

4. You have to be conscious of your emotions.
Your emotions are a powerful indicator of if you are moving towards or away from your desires. If you feel elated and happy, you are moving in the direction of your desires; if you feel dread and nervousness then that is your heart telling you that it knows something you don’t. Learn to pay attention. The trick is to not spend time thinking about the things that make you feel bad because you will attract more of them.

5. Become a deliberate creator or Sorcerer.
Sorcerer means from the source. Becoming a Sorcerer means that you are letting source energy work for you. It means that you meditate on what you want, pray and ask God to help you get it and then you move out of the way and let him do his work. The focus here is on the word “meditate”. You have to get still and hear God. When you do, you will get inspiration and instruction on how to move that mountain out of the way. You will get instructions on how to turn your business around, how to motivate your children, new book ideas etc.

How to get Rapid Results by eating your Largest Frogs First

As a Leader, You have the vision, you have identified where you are on the map. You have even written out your goals on paper, so now what?
Now you have to take action. You have to start eating the large frogs! Frogs are the jobs that you wish you didn’t have to do. Tadpoles are the jobs you like to do!

As a start-up Entrepreneur for example, You need to lobby for Capital;
You need to build your team;
You need to launch your product or service.

You need to Build it so they will Come!

How do you decide which is the ugliest and biggest frog to eat first?
Most entrepreneurs manage by crises.
The frog they eat first is the one that is on fire!

Here are 5 ways to strategically eat your frogs starting with the ugliest one first!

1: Eat your largest and ugliest frog first: this is usually marketing.
Your company will rise or fall depending on your marketing strategy.
How are you going to get the word out there?

What is your marketing budget?
What kind of money do you want to make?
Are you hoping to make $50,000 per year or $5,000,000 per year?
These are the questions that need to be answered before you begin eating your marketing frog.
You need to set the table before you eat. How many plates do you need? Are you eating alone or will others be joining you? What are some of the sides that go well with marketing frog eating?

The ugliest and biggest frog is usually picking up the phone and start dialing. In the Pursuit of
Happyness movie which documents a real life event, Chris Gardner’s frog was to make 200 calls per day and he ate this frog daily until he was full as a millionaire!.

2: Don’t stare at your frogs too long. If it is a really ugly and unappetizing frog, just gulp it down with one big bite; don’t cut it up into little pieces.
For example, lets say you decide that today you are going to start your campaign to get funding for your new project. You go through your Rolodex and start calling Venture Capitalists. This frog taste bad; but you eat all of it. You don’t stop calling until you have called all the Venture Capitalists on your list.
If you decide for instance to only make 5 calls today and 5 tomorrow, guess what? Tomorrow you going to procrastinate because you hated eating the frogs from yesterday and your mind will gravitate to eating a pleasant tadpole!, Eat your frog at one sitting and get it out of the way!

3: Celebrate yourself. Pump your fist and pat yourself on the back.
You had the courage to do something hard; you did it!!

4: Record your Growth.
Remember when you were a child, your doctor would measure your growth and your weight every time you went to see him? He did this because how much you grew was an indication of how healthy you were.
In a similar way, how much you are growing as a Leader and how much your company grew within a certain period of time is an indication of the health of your company.

One of the frogs, you as the Leader of your organization, team or self, MUST eat is the frog of Personal Growth. If you don’t eat the personal growth frog then your company is guaranteed to become stunted and stop growing. Personal growth includes working with a Coach to Help you accomplish your vision for yourself or company, to establish accountability, to uncover blind spots, to sound out new ideas and get feedback. It involves reading self improvement books and attending seminars in your industry. As the CEO you are the lid! Your company rises or falls under your Leadership.

5: Eat all your frogs, do not leave anything on your plate.
Let’s say you have 10 frogs on your plate. You ate the first two, they were the largest and ugliest ones. You may be tempted to bypass or eliminate some of the others; but every one of the frogs you added to your plate had a specific purpose and is tied to a result. Throwing away your peas because you don’t like it, directly impacts the health of your organization. So eat everything on your plate and your success will be guaranteed!

HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF WITH THE 3 P’S

Synopsis of Patience – You are stranded in the woods. It is dark and it is cold. You need to make a fire to stay warm and to cook anything you can catch. You find a dry stick and a hollow branch and you set about rubbing the stick and the branch together feverishly. You keep this up, rubbing and blowing patiently hoping to create a spark that could be nursed into a fire. You keep rubbing, and blowing. You have all day and all night…..

Perseverance – When you get tired you take a short break and then you get back to work. You tell yourself, “The fire will start”.

Positive – You believe the fire will start. You stay positive, you tell yourself “I will have fire, I will stay warm, I will have food to cook and eat”. You let none of the negative thoughts that pop into your head linger, you send them back immediately. Negative thoughts such as, you don’t know how to a make fire, you are not a cave man, maybe the bush is wet and it will not light, you will die of hunger and cold because no one will find you.

No.. as soon as any of these thoughts come into your mind, you reject them and send them back!. You keep rubbing and blowing with increased vigor. You tell yourself “I shall live and not die”.

I use this vision to encourage myself when I am working hard and not seeing results. I need patience to keep on working hard knowing that one day I will succeed. I need perseverance to do it every day and positivity to believe that I will succeed one day.

You can do the same. Find an inspirational story and use it as your map. Some real life examples are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Arnold built his empire and muscles,

One bicep at a time.

He had the patience and the perseverance to stick with his dream of becoming a world champion and playing the part of Hercules in the United States of America. His Patience, Perseverance and Positivity assured him success.

Sylvester Stallone had to sell his dog for $50.00 because he was starving; but he had Patience to wait until someone offered him the starring role for the script for Rocky, Perseverance to keep pedaling it to over 1500 studios in New York and the belief and positivity that he will succeed…… and he did.

5 Powerful Strategies to Help you Achieve any Goal

A plan is usually the distinguishing feature in the success or failure of a goal.

A study of 100 students in business school found that 66% of students that wrote a business plan succeeded in business even though the business plan was not an accurate accounting of where the business ended up. It seemed that just formulating a plan makes you succeed because it creates a visionary.

Here are 5 other strategies to help you achieve any goal:

1. Faith: You must believe in yourself.

A dream or goal can inspire you and motivate you to action only if you Believe that you can make it happen.

Some don’ts:

• Don’t have a plan “B”.
When you have a plan “B”, you are telling your subconscious that you don’t believe that the plan “A” is going to work.

• Don’t tell yourself that your goal is not realistic.

• Watch your self-talk and internal dialogue.
Eg. Your goal is to be Regional Vice President Sales but; you tell yourself it will never happen because your boss does not like you. Whether that is a fact or not, you will never be promoted to Regional Vice President Sales until you replace that thought with a winning one.

2. Clarity – The goal must be clear.

What do you want? What is your destination end?
Would you like “Peace of mind?”
Would you like “Financial freedom and security?”
Would you like “A higher quality of life for you and your family?”

Your goal is not a promotion. It is not more money. It is not to own your own home; your goal is what you are going to get from achieving these things.

3. Jump in – Stop waiting for the right time.

Chris Gardner calls this “stop digging your potatoes”
There is never a better time than the present.
Don’t wait until you have the time to upgrade your education.
Don’t wait until you are fired from the job you hate to look for a better one.
Stop making excuses and jump in.

4. Understand your past – your past has valuable information about who you are and why you are. It is a storehouse of information.

“Those who cannot remember the past is bound to repeat it.”

It has evidence of where you get stuck, evidence of what you do when the going gets tough, which road do you choose, evidence of your beliefs.

Examine the movie of your life and understand the lessons.
All experiences from your personal library are valuable to create self-awareness.

5. Understand your Why.

Why do you want to leave a Legacy?
Why would you like financial freedom?

Openness – A high openness score means you are open minded. You listen to the ideas of others and are willing to learn from them. Sam Walton built the Walmart Empire by learning from his competitors.

• Conscientiousness – Doing what is right. Integrity and honesty fit into this natural ability as well. Conscientious Entrepreneurs run their companies diligently, solving their customers problems.

• Extraversion – We have heard a lot about extroversion as it relates to successful CEO’s. True in order to sell, you must like people and be comfortable around them; but as an Entrepreneur you shouldn’t go it alone. You should create a team. If you are not a natural extrovert, hire a front line sales person. Bill Gates is an introvert so you could be wildly successful even if you don’t have this natural ability.

• Agreeableness – Are you compassionate, warm and considerate? People do business with people they like. Agreeableness does not mean you must be nice all the time. As a business owner you must be able to also be straightforward with customers and employees and to replace the ones who do not conform to your mission.

• Neuroticism – A good indication of Entrepreneurial success is to score low on the neuroticism test. Neuroticism is defined as the tendency of an individual to experience negative emotions such as anxiety, hostility, depression, impulsiveness and vulnerability. Entrepreneurs, Managers and Leaders must be emotionally stable, self-confident, calm in the presence of chaos, even tempered and relaxed.

• Fluid Intelligence – This refers to the ability to rapidly learn and apply a rule. Entrepreneurs deal with different issues all day. As a start-up they wear many different hats. The ability to switch from one issue to another is very important and is a skill that cannot be learned. Fluid Intelligence is considered the most revealing test for success. If you get stuck and can’t switch roles, you cannot lead and become an Enterprise.

I open this up for comments if anyone disagrees with Silicon Valley. As an Entrepreneur, I agree with this predictive test.

Similarly, when starting a small business, entrepreneurs conduct market research to understand the competition and the key economic conditions and indicators. Entrepreneurs also build a business plan, which sets the strategic framework for the organization and maps out the path forward. In addition, small business owners find top talent who will help them execute the plan and beat the competition.

During the game

Over the course of a game, head coaches make adjustments regularly, shifting tactics to put their team in position to score and win. They consult with assistant coaches to get advice on what plays they should run. Entrepreneurs and Sales Managers also make strategic moves and adjust to constantly changing market forces and customer demands.

Coaches typically deliver inspiring halftime speeches that motivate players to give their all and function as a team. Entrepreneurs and Managers should also motivate their employees by providing benefit programs and encouraging their career growth through coaching and motivational curriculum, that helps to strengthen their teams’ skills. Following a game, coaches review footage to analyze which plays and strategies did or did not work and what improvements the team can make to defeat the next opponent. At the end of each day or period of performance, entrepreneurs crunch numbers to determine how well the business performed and identify ways to boost profits, cut costs and improve customer service.

At your Monday Morning sales meetings, Sales Managers should be doing the same thing. They should be analyzing which plays resulted in closed sales and which plays didn’t. They should develop strategies and best practices from reviewing the week’s plays. Only then can they become the Tom Brady of management. They will know the strengths and weaknesses of not only their team members but of the competition. They will know if the competition has a tendency to lead with price or service. They could then quarterback their team to run plays that would leave the competition behind or looking in the wrong direction.
