It is the face of innocence interrupted.
Millions of children are, sexually abused every year by people they trust. Fathers, brothers, uncles, family friends, their mothers boyfriends…the list goes on.

The TLC network is shining a light on this issue with their documentary “Breaking the Silence.”

This documentary “Breaking the Silence” aired on the TLC network Sunday, August 30. This one-hour special featured interviews with people impacted by sexual abuse, including two members of RAINN’s Speakers Bureau, survivors Ter-rae Lee and David Moody, as well as survivor-advocate Erin Merryn, the force behind Erin’s Law.

One of the speakers on the program was Cheryl Burke of Dancing with the Stars fame. Cheryl shared her child sexual abuse story. She was sexually abused by her kinder-garden school teacher at the tender age of 6 years. She shares how that experience has shaped her life and defined her subsequent choice in lovers.

Some other famous child sexual abuse survivors were Oprah Winfrey and Dr Maya Angelou. All three of these women overcame their childhood obstacles and went on to live remarkable lives, but some are not so fortunate. Chapter 2: “Out of The Snares”

As a Certified a Life Coach, I am trained to help my clients look back at their past and find clues for their future. It is not that the past equals the future, but that it gives you an indication of how you respond to hurts and disappointments. For example: Do you tackle them head on and fight like Rocky Balboa, or do you fold up like an umbrella and let circumstances anchor you in life?

In Chapter 2 of my book “Out Of The Snares” I share with my readers how I responded to a significant childhood hurt, child abuse. I used the analogy of a train traveling to a predetermined destination and hit something along the way and become derailed. That train can no longer continue on to that destination. Once derailed it is finished.

I made the choice not to let the circumstances of my childhood, derail me. Instead, I chose to look at the positives that came out of that experience and allowed the lessons learned to shape me into the person I am today.
We all have a story, the successful people in life, succeed in spite of their story. I share secrets on how to use your story as the launching pad to fire you up.

I show how the people that God placed in your life as a child, are there to teach you something. Just as in the story of Moses being raised by the Pharaoh’s daughter until he was ready for God to use him to fulfill his purpose, all the people in your life have strategic purposes.

The take away from this chapter is that we all have a past. Some more daunting than others, but under every cloud there is a silver lining. Success in life depends on how you chose to respond to the rain.

Remember that the same rain that causes the flood is the same rain that is responsible for the harvest.

What Are You Waiting Patiently on God For?

It is important to understand or become conscious of why you want the things or certain people to come into your life. If you are asking God for a child, be conscious of why you want a child. Is it because you want someone to love you or you want something to love? A puppy can satisfy that need.
If you are asking God for a spouse, is it because you want to share your life and be important to someone, or is it because you need help with your bills? Awareness is the key to understanding your desires.

When what you want does not show up, what do you do?
Do you become depressed and lose faith in God?

In the first chapter of my book “Out Of The Snares”, I share with you my journey to adopting my twin girls. I write about where the desire originated from. I share how I responded to the resistance offered up by the Universe and people at the Department of Children’s and Families. I share with you how the Laws of Detachment worked for me.

The Law of Detachment works with faith. Faith that God will grant you the desires of your heart, so you give this desire to God and you let him work out the details. You become detached. Not from the outcome but from the journey.

If a desire comes from your true self
It has within it the power to manifest.

For example: let’s say that you are going on a road trip to Florida from California. Your GPS navigational system can take you, the fastest way, the longest scenic way, or the cheapest way to avoid tolls. Regardless, of the route you take, you will be confident that route will take you to Florida.
In a similar way, you have to be confident in God that all roads will lead you to your destination. So, don’t become frustrated and give up.

The trick is to detach yourself from all the craziness and petty people trying to take from you what God has purposed for you to have. You must also remember that God’s time usually does not coincide with your time, so learn patience and get yourself ready.
If you are asking God for a promotion, learn the skills necessary for this new job.
If you are asking God for a child, learn how to be the best parent ever, read parenting books.
If you are asking God for a spouse, learn how to have effective relationships.
If you need to lose weight, work on it. Be the best that you can be and when God feels you are ready, he will give you the victory, because you serve a living God, who is able to do all things.

How to get Rapid Results by eating your Largest Frogs First

As a Leader, You have the vision, you have identified where you are on the map. You have even written out your goals on paper, so now what?
Now you have to take action. You have to start eating the large frogs! Frogs are the jobs that you wish you didn’t have to do. Tadpoles are the jobs you like to do!

As a start-up Entrepreneur for example, You need to lobby for Capital;
You need to build your team;
You need to launch your product or service.

You need to Build it so they will Come!

How do you decide which is the ugliest and biggest frog to eat first?
Most entrepreneurs manage by crises.
The frog they eat first is the one that is on fire!

Here are 5 ways to strategically eat your frogs starting with the ugliest one first!

1: Eat your largest and ugliest frog first: this is usually marketing.
Your company will rise or fall depending on your marketing strategy.
How are you going to get the word out there?

What is your marketing budget?
What kind of money do you want to make?
Are you hoping to make $50,000 per year or $5,000,000 per year?
These are the questions that need to be answered before you begin eating your marketing frog.
You need to set the table before you eat. How many plates do you need? Are you eating alone or will others be joining you? What are some of the sides that go well with marketing frog eating?

The ugliest and biggest frog is usually picking up the phone and start dialing. In the Pursuit of
Happyness movie which documents a real life event, Chris Gardner’s frog was to make 200 calls per day and he ate this frog daily until he was full as a millionaire!.

2: Don’t stare at your frogs too long. If it is a really ugly and unappetizing frog, just gulp it down with one big bite; don’t cut it up into little pieces.
For example, lets say you decide that today you are going to start your campaign to get funding for your new project. You go through your Rolodex and start calling Venture Capitalists. This frog taste bad; but you eat all of it. You don’t stop calling until you have called all the Venture Capitalists on your list.
If you decide for instance to only make 5 calls today and 5 tomorrow, guess what? Tomorrow you going to procrastinate because you hated eating the frogs from yesterday and your mind will gravitate to eating a pleasant tadpole!, Eat your frog at one sitting and get it out of the way!

3: Celebrate yourself. Pump your fist and pat yourself on the back.
You had the courage to do something hard; you did it!!

4: Record your Growth.
Remember when you were a child, your doctor would measure your growth and your weight every time you went to see him? He did this because how much you grew was an indication of how healthy you were.
In a similar way, how much you are growing as a Leader and how much your company grew within a certain period of time is an indication of the health of your company.

One of the frogs, you as the Leader of your organization, team or self, MUST eat is the frog of Personal Growth. If you don’t eat the personal growth frog then your company is guaranteed to become stunted and stop growing. Personal growth includes working with a Coach to Help you accomplish your vision for yourself or company, to establish accountability, to uncover blind spots, to sound out new ideas and get feedback. It involves reading self improvement books and attending seminars in your industry. As the CEO you are the lid! Your company rises or falls under your Leadership.

5: Eat all your frogs, do not leave anything on your plate.
Let’s say you have 10 frogs on your plate. You ate the first two, they were the largest and ugliest ones. You may be tempted to bypass or eliminate some of the others; but every one of the frogs you added to your plate had a specific purpose and is tied to a result. Throwing away your peas because you don’t like it, directly impacts the health of your organization. So eat everything on your plate and your success will be guaranteed!

HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF WITH THE 3 P’S

Synopsis of Patience – You are stranded in the woods. It is dark and it is cold. You need to make a fire to stay warm and to cook anything you can catch. You find a dry stick and a hollow branch and you set about rubbing the stick and the branch together feverishly. You keep this up, rubbing and blowing patiently hoping to create a spark that could be nursed into a fire. You keep rubbing, and blowing. You have all day and all night…..

Perseverance – When you get tired you take a short break and then you get back to work. You tell yourself, “The fire will start”.

Positive – You believe the fire will start. You stay positive, you tell yourself “I will have fire, I will stay warm, I will have food to cook and eat”. You let none of the negative thoughts that pop into your head linger, you send them back immediately. Negative thoughts such as, you don’t know how to a make fire, you are not a cave man, maybe the bush is wet and it will not light, you will die of hunger and cold because no one will find you.

No.. as soon as any of these thoughts come into your mind, you reject them and send them back!. You keep rubbing and blowing with increased vigor. You tell yourself “I shall live and not die”.

I use this vision to encourage myself when I am working hard and not seeing results. I need patience to keep on working hard knowing that one day I will succeed. I need perseverance to do it every day and positivity to believe that I will succeed one day.

You can do the same. Find an inspirational story and use it as your map. Some real life examples are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Arnold built his empire and muscles,

One bicep at a time.

He had the patience and the perseverance to stick with his dream of becoming a world champion and playing the part of Hercules in the United States of America. His Patience, Perseverance and Positivity assured him success.

Sylvester Stallone had to sell his dog for $50.00 because he was starving; but he had Patience to wait until someone offered him the starring role for the script for Rocky, Perseverance to keep pedaling it to over 1500 studios in New York and the belief and positivity that he will succeed…… and he did.

5 Powerful Strategies to Help you Achieve any Goal

Without a plan a goal is just a dream.

The most important ingredient for success is a plan!
A plan is usually the distinguishing feature in the success or failure of a goal.

A study of 100 students in business school found that 66% of students that wrote a business plan succeeded in business even though the business plan was not an accurate accounting of where the business ended up. It seemed that just formulating a plan makes you succeed because it creates a visionary.

Here are 5 other strategies to help you achieve any goal:

1. Faith: You must believe in yourself.

A dream or goal can inspire you and motivate you to action only if you Believe that you can make it happen.

Some don’ts:

• Don’t have a plan “B”.
When you have a plan “B”, you are telling your subconscious that you don’t believe that the plan “A” is going to work.

• Don’t tell yourself that your goal is not realistic.

• Watch your self-talk and internal dialogue.
Eg. Your goal is to be Regional Vice President Sales but; you tell yourself it will never happen because your boss does not like you. Whether that is a fact or not, you will never be promoted to Regional Vice President Sales until you replace that thought with a winning one.

2. Clarity – The goal must be clear.

What do you want? What is your destination end?
Would you like “Peace of mind?”
Would you like “Financial freedom and security?”
Would you like “A higher quality of life for you and your family?”

Your goal is not a promotion. It is not more money. It is not to own your own home; your goal is what you are going to get from achieving these things.

3. Jump in – Stop waiting for the right time.

Chris Gardner calls this “stop digging your potatoes”
There is never a better time than the present.
Don’t wait until you have the time to upgrade your education.
Don’t wait until you are fired from the job you hate to look for a better one.
Stop making excuses and jump in.

4. Understand your past – your past has valuable information about who you are and why you are. It is a storehouse of information.

“Those who cannot remember the past is bound to repeat it.”

It has evidence of where you get stuck, evidence of what you do when the going gets tough, which road do you choose, evidence of your beliefs.

Examine the movie of your life and understand the lessons.
All experiences from your personal library are valuable to create self-awareness.

How to Run Your Sales Meetings like a Quaterback

As a Head Coach, Bill Belichick’s greatness comes from the fact that he builds his systems around the strengths and weaknesses of his roster and it led him to 4 Super Bowl Championships. This is good coaching in the purest form; playing to the strengths of one’s personnel.

It may not be something that often crosses your mind, but football coaches and small business owners have a lot in common. Both professions require leadership, dedication, commitment and a strong work ethic in order to succeed.

Just like football coaches, as a small business owner or a Sales Manager; you must take on many roles to ensure everybody is working together as a team to achieve important goals and for operations to run smoothly. Here are a few other ways football coaches and small business owners play a similar game.

To prepare for a football game, coaches research opponents, develop game plans and determine the best lineup of players who will help the team win. Similarly, when starting a small business, entrepreneurs conduct market research to understand the competition and the key economic conditions and indicators. Entrepreneurs also build a business plan, which sets the strategic framework for the organization and maps out the path forward. In addition, small business owners find top talent who will help them execute the plan and beat the competition.

During the game

Over the course of a game, head coaches make adjustments regularly, shifting tactics to put their team in position to score and win. They consult with assistant coaches to get advice on what plays they should run. Entrepreneurs and Sales Managers also make strategic moves and adjust to constantly changing market forces and customer demands.

Coaches typically deliver inspiring halftime speeches that motivate players to give their all and function as a team. Following a game, coaches review footage to analyze which plays and strategies did or did not work and what improvements the team can make to defeat the next opponent. At the end of each day or period of performance, entrepreneurs crunch numbers to determine how well the business performed and identify ways to boost profits, cut costs and improve customer service.

At your Monday Morning sales meetings, Sales Managers should be doing the same thing. They should be analyzing which plays resulted in closed sales and which plays didn’t. They should develop strategies and best practices from reviewing the week’s plays. Only then can they become the Tom Brady of management. They will know the strengths and weaknesses of not only their team members but of the competition. They will know if the competition has a tendency to lead with price or service. They could then quarterback their team to run plays that would leave the competition behind or looking in the wrong direction.

Confidence directly impacts results, here is how to get it.

You are down by 16 points with 3 mins to go in the 4 quarter. You have played the worst game of your life. You have thrown 4 interceptions. Not only that, but the world is looking on and judging you. What do you do? Do you fold up like a flower without sunshine? Or do you dig deep and remember the last time you were down 16 to nothing and you came away with the victory? Quarterback Russell Wilson did just that on Sunday to win the AFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers. With 3 mins to go in the 4 quarter, Wilson was having his worst game to date; he had thrown 4 interceptions. The commentators were saying they had never seen Wilson play this bad. I started to route for them. I was routing for the underdogs, the Packers, because the Seahawks were the Super Bowl champions; but I hate to see a team embarrassed in front of millions. I have heard of quarterbacks who were tagged as not being able to win the big games. But this is where confidence separates the true champions. Confidence and the spirit of never giving up. Even though Wilson had already thrown 4 interceptions to Kearse, he had confidence in him to give him another chance and he caught that winning touchdown and held on to that ball like his life depended on it. If you allow the facts like you just threw 4 interceptions, and you let negative thoughts snap your positive energy; you will loose. But like Wilson tearfully declared after pulling off a stunning overtime victory, he had the confidence in himself and in his team that they could win.

I saw this same scenario play out on a sales team that I was a part of. We were a team of about 40 outbound reps in a call center. The top sales persons on the team were selling about 40 units per day. Then a new girl was hired. She started banging out 40 units by noon!. Management thought she was cheating and started to check her sales to make sure she was not sandbagging leads. She calmly declared that she was not cheating; but that she was confident. She said when she picked up the phone, she had confidence that she was going to close the sale, and she usually did. I started paying attention to what she was doing, and I too started selling 40 units by lunchtime!.

Confidence is usually the result of prior successes. As a sales manager, confidence should be the first skill you coach to. If your team is not confident, that they cannot win. You have to exhume past victories to give energy to present day activities. Why did Wilson feel that he could win?; because he won before. He knew that if there was time on the clock, his team had a chance.

Who are the Stars on Your Team? The 20/70/10 rule of Differentiation

Who is your favorite star player? Is it LeBron James in basketball? Peyton Manning in Football, or Derek Jeter in baseball? Regardless of which star you pick, management knows that this star is the “duck who lays the golden eggs” and they treat him with respect and shower him with dollars. On the same team, suiting up in the same uniform, playing the same number of games, going to the same amount of meetings and practice workouts; you can have the star making 10 million per year and his team member making the minimum $300,000 per year. What exactly is the message management is trying to convey with this disparity in salary? The message is “you are the best, you are important to this team winning, we value you and your skills, we don’t want another team to be able to steal you away by offering you more money.” The other members of the team don’t grumble at the water cooler about the unfairness of pay. Instead they are happy to play in the presence of greatness and they are hoping that some of his skills will rub off on them.

Let’s bring this scenario to your sales team. How are you letting the stars on your team know that you value their contributions? Do you reward them with praise publicly and personally? Do their bonuses reflect their value? I have been on teams where the top sales representative overachieves by 150% to revenue goal and the Sales Manager offers no public or personal congratulations. No fanfare! On top of that accounting tries to not pay by recalculating and cutting the amounts of bonuses.

The 20/70/10 rule of differentiation states that 20% of your team are your star players and should be showered with incentives to continue to perform at this high level. The next 70 percent are average or mediocre team members and management should offer them coaching to improve their confidence and skills sets.

Take the case study of Rolando McClain. He was the #1 draft pick for the Oakland Raiders in 2010. That means that he was one of the best coming out of college; but once in the NFL, he didn’t live up to his potential and he was released first by Oakland Raiders. He was then picked up by the Baltimore Ravens and later released as well. Then when the Cowboys were looking for a linebacker, McClain came under their radar and they decided to check him out. They called his old college coach Nick Sabin and asked him what made McClain good in college. With this information the Cowboys received from Coach Sabin, they called McClain in for a tryout and made him an offer. The story goes that the exchange with the Ravens cost the Cowboys a bag of donuts! Jason Garrett the head coach of the Cowboys and his coaching staff worked with McClain, improved his confidence, and moved him from the bottom 10%, to the top 20%. McClain now starts every game and he and the Cowboys had an awesome year.

The job of a Sales Manager is to move his mediocre players up through the ranks with effective coaching. Sometimes an outside coach works best, because the employee can be honest. Beating them over the head with the numbers on the report is not the way to do it.
