Myrna – I know business school teaches you about business.  Why did you settle on the, consciousness, and mental awareness,  part of business?

Charlie – I have to say my wife got me into it.  You’ll probably hear about my wife a lot on this interview. I describe her as the wisdom of our family.  My wife has been in the, consciousness, and, spirituality, space for 40 years, in various roles.  She was also involved with The Mind and Life Institute. The Mind and life Institute was founded by a Stanford MBA, a Chilean neuro scientist and the Dalai Lama and proves through science the benefits of contemplative practices like, mindfulness, consciousness, mental awareness, etc. The organization’s started 40 years ago and my wife became involved about 14 or 15 years ago. She introduced me to the organization and the investors who started Bridge Builders Collaborative.  They wanted to understand the science behind, mindfulness, and mind training.  They needed someone to go out and find out whether there were investments for, consciousness, and, mental awareness, so they hired me to do that work for them; that was about nine years ago.

Myrna – Okay that’s great! Okay so 40 years, that’s a long time to be in the, consciousness, space.   Do you practice, mindfulness, yourself or are you just involved in the business aspect of it?

Charlie –  I would say yes, I practice, mindfulness.  I had my own experience, before starting this job.  I might even call it  my own awakening.  It caused a deepening of my own, consciousness, and  awareness.

There have been thousands of research studies around the benefits of, consciousness, and, mindfulness.  That research is ongoing,  it’s all about, mindfulness for stress reduction,  mindfulness for depression or anxiety.  Mindfulness, has been studied around the world by leading institutions, and that is when it got to a point where we thought there was enough validation, that’s really when entrepreneurs started to ask the question.  How can we take this, mindfulness, and conscious awareness and create a company out of it, and help bring it to more people in the world?

Myrna –  Consciousness, and, mindfulness, are experiencing a Global Movement.  I was listening to, Sadhguru, on the School of Greatness Podcast and he was discussing his book Inner Engineering. So I went out and purchased, Sadhguru’s, book Inner Engineering and this morning on my morning walk, I started listening to this book. Just the first chapter of  Inner Engineering, blew me away. Sadhguru, talked about how he would go into a trance like state with his eyes open and sit there for hours. How he could feel his digestion! It was amazing.

Charlie why do you believe there’s a global movement towards, consciousness, and, spirituality? We talked about the benefits of, mindfulness,  do you think that the East is coming to the West?

Charlie – First of all, I just want to say I love, Sadhguru. I owe him and I love the man very deeply.  Secondly my own perspective, I don’t claim to be right on this; my own perspective is that there is such a level of stress and suffering in the world, that  Eastern practices like Buddhism are filling a need.  We have to reduce suffering, we have to reduce stress and anxiety, and, consciousness, and, mindfulness,  are tools that are coming to help people in the United States and around the world.  These, consciousness, tools help people to get more in touch with themselves.  To help them to connect more deeply to themselves and hopefully help them live happier, healthier  and more authentic lives.

Myrna – That’s was the first part of, Sadhguru’s,  book.  How to find joy. Sadhguru, made the comment that in the olden days, people were stressed because they were hungry and it was all about survival;  but once your belly is full, you should be happy because, that’s usually the survival part of life. Sadhguru, went on to say that now that our bellies are full and we are the most privileged people in history, we are more unhappy and stressed than our ancestors!

Charlie – That’s where programs about stress reduction and, mindfulness, come into play.  It’s a great endeavor to fund more of these companies, so that a lot more people can have access to these tools.  They won’t have to go to India, which is where the majority of these teachings originates, they can access these companies in the United States and that is where your company comes in.

Strategy for Funding Consciousness

Myrna – So, let’s talk about what your strategy is to invest in companies by helping them allow people to go deeper into, consciousness, and mental awareness. Tell us about your company and how you help investors.

Charlie – When we make an investment, we try to add value to those investments in several different ways,  The first way is through what I would call counsel.  My partners and business leaders, who have led in many different industries, have start-up experience or have invested in many companies; so they have the wisdom to provide the entrepreneur with help that entrepreneur be more successful.

The second thing we do is because we are so connected in the space, we’re the only investors that are solely focused on the, consciousness, and, mindfulness, space; so we know many of the world’s leading spiritual teachers.  We also know many of the world’s scientists, we are also connected into the healthcare system.  We’re connected to other entrepreneurs and investors, so we add connections that help make introductions that help the entrepreneurs in several different ways.

Thirdly,  we’ve developed a really good reputation for being investors that not only care about making money; but we care about making an impact in the world. So, if we invest in someone, it adds to their credibility.

Finally our purpose is to provide capital or cash that helps the entrepreneur to hire people, do marketing campaigns,  build platforms etc. but that’s the least important to us.

Myrna – Well that’s great! So, coaching, counseling,  you introduce them to the leading scientists, spiritual leaders like, Sadhguru, and then you provide cash. Nice, so how does someone find you?  Or how do you go about selecting the companies that you want to invest in?

Charlie – People tend to find us because we’re known in this space.  Our website is BB collaborative  and we tend to use as a funnel and  our screening process.

Nine Steps to Funding a Consciousness Business

  • When somebody comes to me with a business idea, it’s normally because they’ve started their business.
  • They’ve got their first customers.
  • They’ve got revenue coming in the door and we provide the growth capital. That’s what I look for.
  • Then we ask the question if our investors were to invest in this company, what is the impact that we can make on a global scale?
  • Next what’s the science behind the product? We try to do an assessment, if the science is good or where are the holes in the science.
  • We also look at the entrepreneur.  do an assessment if the entrepreneur themselves is conscious, if the entrepreneur is vulnerable and is willing to do their own personal work, is willing to let go of ego.
  • Are they skilled at running a business and being able to grow that business.
  • Is the product differentiated?  Is there a need for it?
  • Lastly we look at if we invest in this product, How much potential money can we make from it? How can the company be sustainable?  Can it provide returns on our capital? How much of a return can shareholder expect?

Myrna – I like what you said about wanting to know the science behind a project. Can you give me an example of one of your investments that would maybe fit this model?

Companies using Science to promote Global, Consciousness

Charlie – I’ll give you a few different examples. I’m on the board of Muse Guided Meditations. I am passionate about that company.  We’ve been investors for seven years.  A lot of people have heard of a company called Headspace.  We were one of the early investors in Headspace. The company has done a great job of rebranding meditation and making it accessible to the modern world actually.  Sadhguru, is on the platform.

It’s a global community of 7,000 spiritual teachers, musicians, scientists that meet on a platform community of sixteen million.  About five hundred thousand people use it every day.  What I like about this platform is that it’s all free.  It’s free content.  There are forty five thousand meditations that are available for free. You could subscribe if you want special features; but you never have to pay for the service and you can connect with the world’s leading spiritual teachers and find content that suits either your spiritual tradition or the specific teacher that you want. It’s a very diverse group of teachers, 44 teachers are teaching in 44 different language and it’s global.

I’ll just mention you know another company called ‘Happify’ which is kind of a behavioral health platform for, mindfulness, positive psychology, and cognitive behavioral therapy.  It’s an app and they kind of gamified the experience.  They’re actually going through the FDA process to become a digital therapeutic program;  so that it can be prescribed by doctors and reimbursed by insurance companies. They are hoping  to be able to treat actual conditions without taking as many drugs.

Myrna – So that’s so that’s beautiful! I’m definitely going to try Headspace.  I’m thinking that it’s almost the same thing as Muse. No?

CharlieMuse is a hardware device where you could see your brainwaves.  It allows you to basically see whether you’re in a calm or focused state.  It connects to your phone.  Headspace is more just like a meditation app,  it doesn’t have a hardware component to it.

Myrna – As we wrap up the interview I’m curious to hear about how you started a non-profit in the slums or poverty-stricken areas of Nairobi Kenya that has served three to five million patients so far.  Can you tell us about that? Is that also part of the Global, consciousness, and, spirituality, movement?

Charlie – So, in 1986 I’d gotten out of college, I was traveling around the world. I was kind of working weird jobs and in remote places and the last place that I landed was in Nairobi, where I worked as a social worker for like three months.  I learned that I didn’t like Social Work at all.  I wasn’t good at it, and yet I became passionate about the continent of Africa. I wanted to do something to help create change, I knew it wasn’t going to be through social work but, you know the best way I could think of to try to help people was to start a business.  I had a co-founder, a Kenyan who I co-founded the organization with and one other guy that I went to college with, and we started this organization called Provide international. It started as a child feeding program then we started a business loan program for women entrepreneurs, not necessarily in the, consciousness, or, mindfulness, space.

Then we discovered that what the community was asking for was a health care organization; so we started a health care organization.

  • They had the first maternity wards in any poverty-stricken areas of Africa that I know about, we had the first ambulance.
  • We had one of only two ambulances in the entire country of Kenya.
  • They had the first eye doctors and dentists in those areas. After 9 years, I decided to turn it over to the Kenyan, so they could run it themselves not have Americans overseeing them.

Charlie – People can find me at you know on LinkedIn at Charlie Hartwell. I have a medium blog and  I write articles on,  mindfulness, and,  consciousness.

Myrna – All right so, I don’t have anything more. I just wanted to thank you for coming on the show and expanding our, consciousness, on how we can possibly build our inner engineering with, mindfulness, and have a global impact in the world.  We start by changing ourselves first so, once we change ourselves or we change internally, then we can contribute to the global movement towards spirituality.

Growth Hacks, to Win the Internet Game

Growth hacks to Ace the Game

If you have a business whether it’s online or in-store you need to press play to hear some, growth hacks, from the expert. Vin Clancy.  In today’s episode of the Transform you mind with coach Myrna, I’m speaking to, growth hacker, Vin Clancy. Our topic today is “ Growth hacks, to win the internet game.”  Vin is going to share with us today his secret sauce to winning the internet game. I myself want this recipe!

Growth Hacking
Here is some background info on Vin.

• Infamous growth hacker Vin Clancy went from being on social welfare in the UK to launching 2 online magazines that got over 20 million page views in their first two years with zero ad spend.

• He’s since then won best speaker at SXSW V2V for his, growth hacks, talk finished a 100-date world tour, made six figures on his debut growth hacking book, created one of the biggest marketing communities on Facebook, and moved to L.A., where he teaches companies how to rapidly grow their audiences and businesses.
• Vin’s new book “Ace The Game” was released this November.

Show Notes

I never really had what you would call a real job. Like many people my age and I didn’t quite know what to do with my life. Luckily for me, I came through in the era of the internet. One day my ex-girlfriend said you got to do something with your life because I was sitting all day on the couch collecting welfare for over a year.

That night I had a dream. I dreamt I was the editor of a magazine where the writers would be stars not musicians. The very next day after that dream, I met a seventeen-year-old kid who built websites. He showed me how to buy a website domain and we decided to buy the domain, Planet IV. We chose the name planet because we intended to be a global site delivering world news and IV because our intention was for the site to grow virally!

The next day after our site was live, I hustled every college and university in the country, saying hey we’re building the coolest magazine in the UK. We need writers who wants writing experience. Colleges and universities always want their kids to get writing experience.

The second week we were live with our college writers we had 25,000 visitors. The next six months we did 300,000 visitors, within a year we had a million visitors per month. I learned how to make our content go viral. One of my first, growth hacks, Around the time we had 300,000 visitors a month, we raised a quarter of a million dollars and I was immediately out of debt.

We then launched a second site, screen robot. That site got two million visitors per month in a hundred days.

We then started a, growth hacking, and marketing agency and I started public speaking in order to get clients. I completed a hundred city world tour speaking about, growth hacks, and getting clients. The tour helped me sell my first book “Secret Sauce” which did over a hundred thousand dollars in pre-orders on Kickstarter and IndieGoGo. I then moved to California and I’ve had my biggest year ever. My second book “Ace the Game” just came out and did ten thousand dollars in sales in the first hour of being released.

Vin Clancy

What is this secret sauce?

I only knew one person in the magazine industry my friend Miche. She said, look you only have to get traffic to a website. If you get traffic you will have a brand and then you will get investors. So just focus on that one thing, getting traffic to your site.

Our traffic was always great. It started great and it just carried on. The secret sauce, was we understood what type of content to put on our site for it to go viral. Today they are random social news sites for gaming and film watch. You could get traffic from these sites fairly easily.

The secret sauce, is also your competitive edge.

I had 300 people writing for free and We’re getting three hundred thousand visitors a month to our site. The internet gives you advantages. Before the internet you had to have money; but now it’s the Wild Wild West, everyone can get into the action.

How do people get traffic from social news sites?

Social news sites are sites where people post up links they find interesting and then if other people on the website like them, they are voted and it gets to the top. Our gaming writers used to do gaming this way. I looked in Google Analytics and saw how this was a goldmine for traffic.  The most important of my , growth hacks, then I found the other sister sites.

iHeart Radio

Here are the top 5 social news sites:

Reddit is a social news site with a very smart and helpful community of users. It is plain bordering on downright ugly, but it is very easy to use and a source for some of the best information you’ll find. The first of the social news, growth hacks, to get traffic to your site.

Digg is a popular social news site that covers a variety of topics and acts as an RSS reader. It has an easy-to-use interface and new users can be up and running in no time. This is the second of the, growth hacks,

Newsvine is a social news site that thrives on articles submitted (or “seeded”) by its users, similar to Reddit. Users are encouraged to discuss topics by leaving comments. The most interactive of the, growth hacks,

Voat is like a Reddit clone, right down to the design of it. Browse categories using the menu above, submit your own links and participate in the voting to contribute to the community.

Quora is really a question and answer site rather than a news site, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find newsworthy questions and answers there. The Quora community is ridiculously smart and more than happy to help answer some of the most pressing questions. I have been using Quora as one of my, growth hacks, to get traffic to this blog.

Google Play

 Growth Hacks, for Entrepreneurs

1. Lead Feeder is a piece of software. It’ll find every business who lands on your website and it’ll find their name their email address and their company so that you can then using an email sequence to follow up with them. I think grip is the piece of software we talk about in the book. So we grab their email and then we send them into an email sequence. So just every business person who lands on your website, before you had no idea.

Now you can identify their business and send them an email sequence. That’s an incredible way of getting leads completely on autopilot and my favorite of the, growth hacks,

2. Rebump – The second of the, growth hacks; once you email people you know people are busy they need to be contacted more than once for the most part. Especially if it’s more in your best interest than theirs. Rebound is a software where if you email someone and they don’t respond, Rebump will email them every 24 hours forever!

3. Linked Helper – The third of the 101, growth hacks, listed in my book is Linked Helper. Linked helper and its sister software called Phantom Bastards is a targeting software. You tell it to do a search for whoever you’re targeting such as software engineers in San Francisco and it will find all the people who match that search term. It will reach out to them and connect with them and if they accept the connection request, it’ll send the first message.

When you write that first message make sure it has humor and it’s not too salesy. Make sure it just begins a conversation e.g I’m putting on a free talk or a free webinar or I have a Facebook group for your industry. It’s a really good way of reaching out. I’ve seen agencies with twenty twenty-five people all of them are using this software and they’re just getting leads by the ton every single day. It works.

How to Become an Open Communicator

How to Find Hardcore Happiness

Sometimes being an, open communicator, vs a closed off communicator gets you out of bad situations like in a relationship.  In every area of life, there is no reward if there is no risk taken.

Are you an Open or Closed Communicator

This week on Mindset Transformation radio and podcast with Coach Myrna Young, I interview Leadership Coach and Trainer, Gail Green.
Gail teaches us How to Become an, open Communicator. Gail is the founder of GoGreen Learning.
To receive her Free Gift of 3 Go Cards send her an email from her web site www.gogreenlearning.com

Here is a brief Biography of Gail Green.
• Gail is a leadership coach and trainer and her topic today is “How to find out if you are an, open vs closed communicator, as well as an, open communicator in the workplace.   Gail is a leader who connects individuals and teams to their truth, helping them to discover their full expression of courage, joy and fulfillment. Gail works with all sizes of companies, as well as individually with leaders, and do life coaching with individuals from all walks of life.
• Gail’s primary work is in leadership development, teambuilding, stress management and all forms of, open and honest communication.

Who is a Closed Communicator?

Why is being a, closed communicator, bad?

As a, closed communicator:

  • you become defensive,
  • resistant,
  • bitchy,
  • moody,
  • easy to anger,
  • confrontational,
  • and not open to feedback.

So as a Leader, it is important to be an, open communicator,  to your team and employees.

Open people radiate outwards from their heart and is able to touch others.

If you want to impact your employees and your customers, then learn how to be open.
Listen to the podcast as Gail teaches us how to be an, Open vs Closed communicator, with the help of her Go Cards.

Are You also Closed Off in your personal relationships And Don’t Even Know It?

Being an, open communicator in a relationship, is necessary for the relationship to be healthy.

Here are a few questions to find out if you are an, open communicator.

  • How Would you answer the following questions?
  • Are you emotionally guarded?
  • Are you willing to take risks?

If you answered yes to these questions, it could mean that you are closed off emotionally.

Sometimes being emotionally guarded gets you into bad situations; but most of the time it gets you nowhere. In every area of life, there is no reward if there is no risk taken. So that could be why you keep finding yourself in relationships that bore you, or in relationship with other emotionally closed off individuals. Because like attracts like. Those relationships aren’t very rewarding, are they?

Open and honest communication, is the best way to be in relationships at home and workplace. If you don’t take the risk by becoming an, open communicator, and putting your true self and your true feelings on the table, those are the types of relationships that you will attract.

Your emotionally open friends who love being, open communicators, will get those giddy, best-friends-lovers, movie-type romances; you will get the dead-end ones. Maybe you’ve never had your heart broken, and maybe you think that’s a perk. But it’s not. It is said that it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all! So, I will ask the question. Are you closed off communicator and don’t even realize it?

Here is an article from Madame Enoire that asks 10 more ways to tell if you are closed off personally.

open communication in the workplace
open communication in the workplace

Here are 10 ways to tell if you an, open communicator, or closed off :

  1. Do you feel like first dates are interrogations, and are put off by the line of questioning you receive during them?
  2. Does it feel very inappropriate to you whenever someone becomes emotional around you?
  3. Do your friends share their romantic stories with you? Or do they feel that you are never happy for them so they don’t share?
  4. Do you attract cocky guys?
  5. You do a lot of Googling before first dates.
  6.  You prep your friends to meet a guy.
  7.  Sex is a competition.
  8.  You’ve never cried to a partner or shown your venerability.
  9.  Eye contact makes you very uncomfortable
  10. You’re very sarcastic

Investing in Real Estate: What is the number one mistake people make trying to flip houses?

What is the Number one mistake people make when Flipping houses

The number one mistake people make when investing in real estate is investing before understanding the rules. Listen to learn the rules to win the game of investing in real estate.

A few weeks ago I interviewed my co host Trevor Evans on the topic “The path to Financial Freedom” We received such an overwhelming response to that topic that I decided to have a spin off series on Real Estate Investing. Trevor Evans is a Speaker/Trainer for Legacy Education Alliance and Rich Dad Education. Entrepreneur, Real Estate Investor. Banker and Founder of Personal Awakening Brand “Being Normal Sucks.”

We will start off our series teaching on one of the most popular investment strategies in Real Estate Investing “Funding, Fixing and Flipping.

Flip or Flop

Doing my research for this topic, I found that there is a plethora of mistakes beginning investors make when working with rehab properties. Many of them because of watching shows life MTV’s Flip or Flop where they always end up making the right choices and thus make thousands of dollars in profit!

My co host and I both agree, since we are both Abraham Hicks students, there is nothing wrong with looking for contrast around you and choosing what you want to bring into your vortex.
We are setting the intention that all you would be investors or current investors will gleam from our knowledge and make fewer mistakes with your real estate investments. So if you do fail, you would fail forward!

One of those investment vehicles is to Fund, Fix and Flip houses. It is by far the most popular vehicle because of the opportunity to make a lot of money quickly.

So, make sure you tune in to this podcast twice per month for our series or subscribe to my podcast so as not to miss anything!

In keeping with the format of the show, I want to leave you with my tip of the week.

This week’s tip of the week: Winter is the best time to purchase Real Estate”
From the book “Your money and how to keep it” by Brian Costello

“While economic development can make a difference when it comes to purchasing a house, there is no question that winter is by far the best time to buy.
Think about it for a minute, the weather is freezing cold, the winds are gusting, everything is covered with snow, everybody wants to stay inside where it is warm – and those few who do go outside to see houses that look unattractive because they are knee-deep in snow are serious buyers. Could there be a worst time to be out braving the elements looking for a house? No.
And that’s exactly what happens. Everybody sits tight. No one even thinks about buying a house in the winter months. They are all waiting for the grass to turn green and the flowers to start to bloom.
In the meantime, houses are being put up for sale. The biggest reasons for selling a house still affect the marketplace, no matter what the weather. They include family breakups, company transfers, deaths, and financial hardships.
When a family splits, it’s not uncommon for the house to go up for sale right away as neither spouse has enough money to pay for it outright. If your boss decides to transfer you to another city, you generally have no choice but to move. As a result, your house might be on the market right away, no matter what the market is like. Most of us can’t afford to pay the cost of accommodations in two different locations.

Death, financial hardship, and divorce happens throughout the year; summer and winter. But to have them happen when there are fewer buyers interested in another house always works in the favor of the buyer. It is the old law of supply and demand. And that is what you see in the winter months. There is more supply than there are buyers, so the buyer is in a much better position to demand a lower price, better financing terms or a combination of both.
Winter is also a good time to check that the thermostat is working correctly by looking for heat loss. If the prospective house has less snow on the roof than the other houses, it could indicate that insulation is lacking. When you get inside the house you can listen to the furnace. If it goes on and off while you are there, you know that the house has drafts or furnace problems.
These are some of the reasons why winter is the very best time to get a bargain.”

That is my tip of the week. I hope that you received some nuggets about house hunting for bargains.

Here are some show notes from our expert Trevor Evans:

Question: “What is the catalyst to your success as an investor?”
Answer: “Understanding the rules.”

Reasons for failure as an Investor

Most people play the game of investing in real estate with enthusiasm and talent.
Talent could be their investment funds or just understanding money.
But in any game, You should play to win!
In order to win, like in any sport, you must understand the rules.

If you don’t understand the rules, your talent and your enthusiasm will run out before you can win!

But if you combine your Talent and Enthusiasm with Competence, then you could win the championship or make lots of money!

So let’s answer the question:

The Number One Mistake People Make – Getting into the Rehab Game?

Watching TV shows like the Flip or Flop people think that they can just buy a house, throw some money into it and then flip it and make lots of money.
They do not see the underlying problems that happen to first time investors who do not know the rules of the game.
The flip or Flop investors are doing great now; but I am sure it took them a number of years of failure by trial and error to understand the rules to win the game.

Investing is not easy but it is simple, if you follow the rules

Over your head

It is a process that is done through setting up a system or a set of principles.

Principles do not create success, they prevents failure.

3 Reasons for Failure:
1. They get emotionally involved
2. They pay retail
3. They become intimidated

Listen in to learn how to overcome these reasons for failure.

How to Remove old conditioning:

The physical component of the mind body connection, is the brain.
The mind is the software and the physical brain is the hardware.
If your brain, the hardware, is stuck in old patterns, even with the best of intentions, the software, the mind, won’t work.
If you let your brain keep you repeating the same patterns, you become like a biological robot.
Your words thoughts and actions become totally predictable.
We are all victims of repetitive patterns.

To change the patterns that are not serving you, the solution is awareness.

Here are 5, Behaviors, that are usually automatic.

1: Snacking non – stop even when not hungry
2: Spending too much time on the couch watching TV
3: Overspending your way into debt
4: Eating too much fast foods
5: Skipping breakfast
6: Late night snacking
7: Smoking cigarettes

How can you bring awareness to these, behaviors, and interrupt your pattern?

Let’s look at.
Snacking non stop
– whenever you feel the need to grab that bag of chips, stop and ask yourself
What am I really needing?
What need is this food really filling?

The moment you take a moment to think about your action, you interrupt your pattern.
You are on your way to breaking that habit. Even if you still eat that bag of chips.
You are on to way to removing old conditioning. Awareness is the key.

Another way to remove old conditioning and, behavior, is to:

  •  Change your state
Let’s say you are sitting on the couch and you reach for the bowl of nachos on the table or the bags of chips from our previous example.
Just as you think the thought to command your hands to reach for the bowl; Change your state!
Get up and walk to the bathroom or to the mailbox. Move your physical body into a different position.
  • The 3rd way you can remove old conditioning or, behavior, is to:
  • Create a new habit – rewire the physical component.

Let look at our example of skipping Breakfast.
Make it easy.
– buy a drinkable breakfast and grab it on the way out of the door.
– have your partner make you breakfast.
– prepare a sandwich the night before and eat on the way to work.
– set the alarm 15 mins earlier.

These are a few ways to remove old conditioning and, transform, behavior, in your personal life:

Best Practices to Transform Behavior In the Workplace

• 1) What is “Behavioral Transformation using ETT ?”

Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT)

Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT), a therapeutic method incorporating the use of light, color wavelengths, and eye movements, aims to rapidly transform emotional distress and related physical pain into a positive emotional state.

Professionals trained in ETT work to help those in therapy address trauma and other pain and achieve lasting, healing change.

Emotional Transformation Therapy, developed by contemporary psychologist Dr. Stephen Vazquez in 1991, is a relatively new form of therapy. Vazquez’s studies in the fields of epigenetics, optometry, neurobiology, and quantum physics influenced various aspects of his development of ETT as he attempted to establish a therapeutic technique beneficial for the reduction of emotional and physical distress. His noninvasive, non-pharmaceutical approach combines traditional psychotherapy with the use of visual brain stimulation and colored light therapy for reportedly fast results.

ETT draws on the concepts of interpersonal therapy and visual brain stimulation therapy. This research-driven approach is used by trained practitioners to transform emotional distress without the use of drugs and medications. ETT aims to help the person in treatment move swiftly from a difficult emotional state into a more positive emotional state—from despair to empowerment, unhappiness to joy, or trepidation to courage, and so on—through the remedial use of light and color wavelengths, which can be administered through a light box designed specifically for ETT.

HOW DOES ETT WORK in TRANSFORMING, BEHAVIOR?

Many people who seek therapy do so when they experience mentally or physically unpleasant states or feel trapped by their emotions, feelings, memories, or current situation. In ETT, neural impulses are used in conjunction with specific forms of eye movement and stimulation to target these uncomfortable emotional and physical states in the corresponding areas of the brain.

Specifically, the brain is stimulated with lights and colors in order to reshape the neural impulses affecting the brain and the nervous system. The therapist observes the emotional responses of the person in therapy and helps facilitate productive regulation through verbal cues meant to induce rapid emotional and behavioral changes.

Discoveries in light therapy show particular wavelengths of light to be able to help transform a person’s emotional state when administered properly. ETT theory, which is grounded in this principle, incorporates interaction between the therapist and the person in therapy to create what proponents of ETT believe to be an effective method for the rapid restoration of a positive emotional state.

4 Techniques to Outsmart Your Brain

4 Techniques to Outsmart Your Brain
4 Techniques to Outsmart Your Brain

Welcome to the Mindset Transformation radio show and Podcast. Today Dr. Marcia Reynolds is going to teach us “4 Techniques to Outsmart your Brain” Relax, Detach, gain clarity and ask yourself, How do I want to feel?

But First in keeping with that theme I want to share with you one of the classic stories of how our Brain can Outsmart us.
This story is called “Acres of Diamonds”
There once lived not far from the River Indus an ancient Persian by the name of Al Hafed. Al Hafed owned a very large farm with orchards, grain fields and gardens. He was a contented and wealthy man—contented because he was wealthy, and wealthy because he was contented. One day there visited this old farmer one of those ancient Buddhist priests, and he sat down by Al Hafed’s fire and told that old farmer how this world of ours was made.

He said that this world was once a mere bank of fog and the Almighty thrust his finger into the bank of fog and then began slowly to move his finger around and gradually to increase the speed of his finger until at last he whirled that bank of fog into a solid ball of fire, and it went rolling through the universe, burning its way through other cosmic banks of fog, until it condensed the moisture without, and fell in floods of rain upon the heated surface and cooled the outward crust. Then the internal flames burst through the cooling crust and threw up the mountains and made the hills and the valleys of this wonderful world of ours. If this internal melted mass burst out and cooled very quickly it became granite; that which cooled less quickly became silver; and less quickly, gold; and after gold, diamonds were made. Said the old priest, “A diamond is a congealed drop of sunlight.”

This is a scientific truth also. You all know that a diamond is pure carbon, actually deposited sunlight. The old priest told Al Hafed that if he had a handful of diamonds he could purchase a whole country, and with a mine of diamonds he could place his children upon thrones through the influence of their great wealth.

Al Hafed heard all about diamonds and how much they were worth, and went to his bed that night a poor man—not that he had lost anything, but poor because he was discontented and discontented because he thought he was poor. He said: “I want a mine of diamonds!” So he lay awake all night, and early in the morning sought out the priest. Reminds me of the story I tell my children about the dog and his shadow. If you are not familiar, a dog is walking over a bridge and sees another dog with a bone. He decides he wants that bone as well and jumps in and loses the bone he has in his mouth because what he saw was not another dog but his own shadow. It is a story of discontent and greed!

Getting back to our story. Al Hafed woke the priest out of his dreams and said to him, “Will you tell me where I can find diamonds?” The priest said, “Diamonds? What do you want with diamonds?” “I want to be immensely rich,” said Al Hafed, “but I don’t know where to go.” “Well,” said the priest, “if you will find a river that runs over white sand between high mountains, in those sands you will always see diamonds.” “Do you really believe that there is such a river asked al Hafed?” The priest replied “Plenty of them, plenty of them; all you have to do is just go and find them, then you have them.” Al Hafed said, “I will go.” So he sold his farm, collected his money at interest, left his family in charge of a neighbor, and away he went in search of diamonds.

He began at the Mountains of the Moon. Afterwards he went around into Palestine, then wandered on into Europe, and at last, when his money was all spent, and he was in rags, wretchedness and poverty, he stood on the shore of that bay in Barcelona, Spain, when a tidal wave came rolling in through the Pillars of Hercules and the poor, afflicted, suffering man could not resist the awful temptation to cast himself into that incoming tide, and he sank beneath its foaming crest, never to rise in this life again.

Now, Al Hafed’s successor one day led his camel out into the garden to drink, and as that camel put its nose down into the clear water of the garden brook Al Hafed’s successor noticed a curious flash of light from the sands of the shallow stream, and reaching in he pulled out a black stone having an eye of light that reflected all the colors of the rainbow, and he took that curious pebble into the house and left it on the mantel, then went on his way and forgot all about it.

A few days after that, this same old priest who told Al Hafed how diamonds were made, came in to visit his successor, when he saw that flash of light from the mantel. He rushed up and said, “Here is a diamond—here is a diamond! Has Al Hafed returned?” “No, no; Al Hafed has not returned and that is not a diamond; that is nothing but a stone; we found it right out here in our garden.” “But I know a diamond when I see it,” the priest said; “this is a diamond!”

Then together they rushed to the garden and stirred up the white sands with their fingers and found others more beautiful, more valuable diamonds than the first, and thus were discovered the diamond mines of Golconda, the most magnificent diamond mines in all the history of mankind, exceeding the Kimberley in its value. The great Kohinoor diamond in England’s crown jewels and the largest crown diamond on earth in Russia’s crown jewels came from that mine.

The moral to the story is had Al Hafed remained at home and dug in his own cellar or in his own garden he would have had “acres of diamonds”

We are all “Acres of Diamonds” Each and every one of us is unique with acres of talent and gifts. If we dig we will find them. Don’t be like Al Hafed and go looking for riches elsewhere. You are all diamonds in the rough.

Now let me tell you a little more of our guest today.

Show Notes:
• What do mean by “Outsmart your brain”
The primary purpose of the brain is to protect you and to keep you safe.
Anytime you say something to someone that is critical they get defensive and they get defensive without thought. Outsmarting your Brain is really about making good choices. Stopping and asking what is my brain perceiving here and what is really true. You have to know how to stop, breathe and make good choices.
You have to shift your emotions. Take 10 sec to remember to care, take 10 sec to realize that this person is not trying to hurt me.
You have to change your emotion to change your thought.

Here are the 4 Techniques to change your emotions:
1. Relax your body, release the tension. Take a breath let it out
2. Clear your mind. Quickly drop your mind to the center of your body
3. Center your mind on your Chi or 2nd Chakra
4. Choose how you want to feel.
• What prompts your brain to do things that sabotage your best intentions
The brain perceives a threat to something so it protects you.
If you are afraid it sees danger and sabotages your efforts.

Is there something we can do to stop reacting?
You have to understand your emotions triggers.
They are there to protect you.
Like respect in the workplace.
The brain reacts because it may think that someone is trying to take control over you

How can we use our heart and brain to control our emotions?
Quiet your mind and ask your mind or gut. What should I do?
Take a breath and go into your heart and then you usually say something better
When your heart and your gut is open then you have access to all three of your brains
Your brain, your heart and your gut.

Are the brains of men and women wired differently?
We are born with the same wiring but whatever is rewarded as we aged that is what we become
Women were more head and gut based and men were more head based but that is changing.
Men are becoming more heart based because they are being raised by women.

7 Traits of Highly Effective Sales People

wolf of wall street

“I determine to render more and better service, each day, than I am being paid to render. Those that reach the top are the ones who are not content with doing only what is required of them.”
― Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman In The World

The best sales and most effective sales people are naturals. They are extroverts who love people, have sunny positive personalities and are highly ethical.
Here are seven other traits you should look for when interviewing for your sales team.

1: They fish instead of hunt

A hunter stalks his prey and then attacks. He tries to make one shot for the kill; if he misses, then he tries to find another prey and takes aim again.

A fisher man on the other hand first understands the fish he is trying to catch. In choosing a pond or lake, he knows what kinds of fish are in the pond, what kind of bait they usually bite on and when they are most likely to bite.

In the world of sales, the hunter is the transaction seller who sells on price and usually has only one shot.

The salesperson who is a fisher man on the other hand, takes the time to learn about his customer. He understands how his product solves the problem of the customer and instead of shooting to kill; he dangles the correct bait by offering a solution and builds a relationship with the customer, before he tries to close the sale.

“Obstacles are necessary for success because in selling, as in all careers of importance, victory comes only after many struggles and countless defeats. Yet each struggle, each defeat, sharpens your skills and strengths, your courage and your endurance, your ability and your confidence and thus each obstacle is a comrade-in-arms forcing you to become better… or quit. Each rebuff is an opportunity to move forward; turn away from them, avoid them, and you throw away your future.”
― Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman In The World

2: They know when to speak and when to listen
Inexperienced salespeople think they can win sales by over-talking their prospects. The best salespeople use discretion and carefully crafted questions to get a prospect to close. Once they have delivered the pitch, they know to shut up and listen.

sales cartoon

3: They work closely with their support staff
Closing a large customer sometimes require your solution experts. Great sales persons know when to bring in their support staff to add value to the customer.
Inexperienced salespeople try to do everything by themselves and usually loose the sale.

4: They practice continuous learning
Great salespeople not only learn everything about their product; but they also learn everything about their competitor’s product.
For example: Let’s say you are trying to decide between a Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord as your next vehicle. You are at the Toyota dealership and your salesperson not only tells you why the Toyota Camry is the right car for you based on the needs he uncovered during his fact finding segment of the sale; but he also tells you the all the features of the Honda Accord and why it may not be the best fit for you. He knows his product!

5: Highly Effective Salespeople love their job
Most salespeople actually hate sales and selling. The most effective salespeople actually enjoy it. They get up every day excited about the product and the prospects. They love the high of the win and the excitement and challenge of influencing their customers.

For these few, the high compensation is an added bonus like icing on the cake, of getting to do what they love.

6: They are self-motivated and self-directed

Companies spend a ton of money on sales managers who mostly focus on whip-cracking the bottom performers.

Great salespeople don’t need micro managing; they are internally motivated to being the best and set their own growth goals.

7: They are honest and ethical

Highly effective sales people never over promise and under deliver; they never lie to get a sale. They know that trust of the sales person and the company is essential to a long term relationship with the customer.

They understand the principle that the short term gain of getting a sale on false pretenses equals long term pain.

How to Run Your Sales Meetings like a Coach

Running your, sales meetings, like a, coach,  we can take lessons from, Head Coach, Bill Belichick‘s.  His greatness comes from the fact that he builds his systems around the strengths and weaknesses of his roster and it led him to 4 Super Bowl Championships. This is good coaching in the purest form; playing to the strengths of one’s personnel.

It may not be something that often crosses your mind, but a football, coach,  and small business owners have a lot in common. Both professions require leadership, dedication, commitment and a strong work ethic in order to succeed.

There is an old saying about the strength of the wolf is the pack, and I think there is a lot of truth to that. On a football team, it’s not the strength of the individual players, but it is the strength of the unit and how they all function together.” — Bill Belichick

Just like football coaches, as a small business owner or a Sales Manager; you must take on many roles to ensure everybody is working together as a team to achieve important goals and for operations to run smoothly. Here are a few other ways football coaches and small business owners play a similar game.

Running your, sales meetings, life Pre-game

To prepare for a football game the, coach,  research opponents, develop game plans and determine the best lineup of players who will help the team win. Similarly, when starting a small business, sales managers, conduct market research to understand the competition and the key economic conditions and indicators. Entrepreneurs also build a business plan, which sets the strategic framework for the organization and maps out the path forward. In addition, small business owners find top talent who will help them execute the plan and beat the competition.

How do you, coach, During the game

Over the course of a game, head coaches, make adjustments regularly, shifting tactics to put their team in position to score and win. They consult with the assistant, coach,  to get advice on what plays they should run. Entrepreneurs and Sales Managers also make strategic moves and adjust to constantly changing market forces and customer demands.

How does your, sales teams, handle Halftime

A, coach, typically deliver inspiring halftime speeches that motivate players to give their all and function as a team. Entrepreneurs and, Sales Managers, should also motivate their employees by providing benefit programs and encouraging their career growth through coaching and motivational curriculum, that helps to strengthen their teams’ skills. Having a motivational speaker at your monthly or quarterly sales meetings also adds a charge to your team, similar to the Half Time inspirational speeches of great coaches.

How do you, coach, the Post-game

Following a game, coaches review footage to analyze which plays and strategies did or did not work and what improvements the team can make to defeat the next opponent. At the end of each day or period of performance, entrepreneurs crunch numbers to determine how well the business performed and identify ways to boost profits, cut costs and improve customer service.

At your Monday Morning, sales meetings, Sales Managers,  should be doing the same thing. They should be analyzing which plays resulted in closed sales and which plays didn’t. They should develop strategies and best practices from reviewing the week’s plays. Only then can they become the Tom Brady of management. They will know the strengths and weaknesses of not only their team members but of the competition. They will know if the competition has a tendency to lead with price or service. They could then quarterback their team to run plays that would leave the competition behind or looking in the wrong direction.

Belichick’s Patriots are in the AFC championship game for the sixth consecutive season and the 11th time overall in his 17 seasons. If they beat the Steelers tonight and go on to win Super Bowl LI against Green Bay or Atlanta, they will win the championship for the fifth time under Belichick, which would break his tie with Noll for most Super Bowl wins as coach. Belichick’s 24 postseason wins are record and his 237 regular-season wins rank fourth all-time. His record with the Patriots is 201-71, staggering .739 winning percentage. His accomplishments and consistency are terrific, especially during the free agency era.

“His handprints, his fingerprints are over that whole team,” Ben Roethlisberger said last week. “They often out,coach, their opponent. That’s credit to him, mastermind or whatever you want to call him.

“When you’re playing defense like [New England’s], you have to be prepared for everything. You may not see the same defense twice. He’ll change things up. He’ll give you looks you’ve never seen before. He’ll do things that it doesn’t matter how much you study. That’s what makes him so good. He’s difficult to go against. You look at, arguably, the most well prepared quarterback to ever play the game, Peyton Manning. How many years did Belichick supposedly have his number?”

Manning lost seven of his first eight games against Belichick and finished his Hall of Fame-worthy career 8-12 against him. Roethlisberger, by the way, is 3-against Belichick.

get that people say Belichick didn’t become great coach until he went to New England and hooked up with Tom Brady to become the best coach-quarterback combination in NFL history. Belichick’s five-year record with the Cleveland Browns from 1991 – 95 was 36 44 with four losing seasons. No one was preparing his bust for Canton back then.

Who is the Team Player on Your Team? The 20/70/10 Rule

Let’s bring this, team player, scenario to your, sales team. How are you letting the stars on your, sales team, know that you value their contributions? Do you reward them with praise publicly and personally? Do their bonuses reflect their value?

miami big three

Who is your favorite, team player? Is it LeBron James in basketball? Peyton Manning in Football, or Derek Jeter in baseball? Regardless of which star you pick, management knows that this, team player, is the “duck who lays the golden eggs” and they treat him with respect and shower him with dollars. On the same team, suiting up in the same uniform, playing the same number of games, going to the same amount of meetings and practice workouts; you can have the star making 10 million per year and his team member making the minimum $300,000 per year. What exactly is the message management is trying to convey with this disparity in salary? The message is “you are the best, you are, the most valuable, team player, on this team. We need you to  win. We value you and your skills, we don’t want another team to be able to steal you away by offering you more money.” The other members of the team don’t grumble at the water cooler about the unfairness of pay. Instead they are happy to play in the presence of greatness and they are hoping that some of his skills will rub off on them.

Let’s bring this, team player, scenario to your, sales team. How are you letting the stars on your, sales team, know that you value their contributions? Do you reward them with praise publicly and personally? Do their bonuses reflect their value? I have been on, sales teams,  where the top sales representative overachieves by 150% to revenue goal and the Sales Manager offers no public or personal congratulations. No fanfare! On top of that accounting tries to not pay by recalculating and cutting the amounts of bonuses.

The, 20/70/10 rule, of differentiation states that 20% of your team are your star players and should be showered with incentives to continue to perform at this high level. The next 70 percent are average or mediocre team members and management should offer them coaching to improve their confidence and skills sets.

rolondo Mcclain

Take the case study of Rolando McClain. He was the #1 draft pick for the Oakland Raiders in 2010. That means that he was one of the best coming out of college; but once in the NFL, he didn’t live up to his potential and he was released first by Oakland Raiders. He was then picked up by the Baltimore Ravens and later released as well. Then when the Cowboys were looking for a linebacker, McClain came under their radar and they decided to check him out. They called his old college coach Nick Sabin and asked him what made McClain good in college. With this information the Cowboys received from Coach Sabin, they called McClain in for a tryout and made him an offer. The story goes that the exchange with the Ravens cost the Cowboys a bag of donuts! Jason Garrett the head coach of the Cowboys and his coaching staff worked with McClain, improved his confidence, and moved him from the bottom 10%, to the top 20%. McClain now starts every game and he and the Cowboys had an awesome year.

We could this sports analogy to show that the job of a Sales Manager is to move his mediocre, team player,  up through the ranks with effective coaching. Sometimes an outside coach works best, because the employee can be honest. Beating them over the head with the numbers on the report is not the way to do it.

Who Is a Team Player?

A, team player, is a person who plays or works well as a member of a team or group. Teams in organizations need strong team players to perform well and reach their goals.

Team Players,  motivates unity in the workplace

A teamwork environment promotes an atmosphere that fosters friendship and loyalty. These close-knit relationships motivate employees in parallel and align them to work harder, cooperate and be supportive of one another.

Individuals possess diverse talents, weaknesses, communication skills, strengths, and habits. Therefore, when a teamwork environment is not encouraged this can pose many challenges towards achieving the overall goals and objectives. This creates an environment where employees become focused on promoting their own achievements and competing against their fellow colleagues. This is not a, team player. Ultimately, this can lead to an unhealthy and inefficient working environment.

When teamwork is working, the whole team would be motivated and working toward the same goal in harmony.

Teamwork and Team Players offer differing perspectives and feedback

Good teamwork structures provide your organization with a diversity of thought, creativity, perspectives, opportunities, and problem-solving approaches. A proper team environment allows individuals to brainstorm collectively, which in turn increases their success to problem solve and arrive at solutions more efficiently and effectively.

Effective, sales teams also allow the initiative to innovate, in turn creating a competitive edge to accomplish goals and objectives. Sharing differing opinions and experiences strengthens accountability and can help make effective decisions faster, than when done alone.

Team effort increases output by having quick feedback and multiple sets of skills come into play to support your work. You can do the stages of designing, planning, and implementation much more efficiently when a team is functioning well.

The last number is the bottom 10%. These team members should be moved out to other roles. If on a sales team and selling is not their forte, they could be moved to a supporting role, for example.
