The 11:11 sign

I was in a place of  losing myself and really being in a state of confusion and not understanding why the world felt so hard and uncomfortable, painful and challenging and stressful.  I went into my prayer room,  and I prayed and said just send me a sign.  Let me know I'm not alone, I just really need to know that there is something bigger than me out there, and the next thing I knew, I started receiving these experiences with the numbers 11 11.

I would see the numbers dozens of times a day up to 30, 40, 50 times a week they would appear on any and everything imaginable from Billboards to license plates to mailboxes, to store receipts they just would show up and it was undeniable.  So either I was losing my mind and really going crazy or number two the universe really was speaking to me.

What I'm talking about is that which is bigger than all of us and yet unites all of us in some way that we are interconnected with that aspect of life was letting me know that I was not alone and was about to open the doorway to a whole world of signs and symbols that I never even imagined possible.

Myrna: Did you researched what 11: 11 means?  I know numbers mean something.

What is synchronicity

Simran:  So often these numbers 11 or 11: 11 would appear and they'd make me pause. I'd go oh there's that number again.  That's how the signs start. You may be seeing something else, maybe it's a cardinal, maybe it is a feather.  There's something in your world that is appearing to you.  Signs and symbols, communication, usually shows up in those moments that either you have a question that you're really struggling with or it comes along in the exact moment that you're dreaming about the life that you really want to live.

The numbers and the prompts or the, signs and symbols, communication, they show up as comfort you and to let you know that the Universe really does have your back.  They will show up as confirmation.

Myrna:  when you started seeing this 11-11 what was what was your next move after you figure it out there was a sign or a symbol?

Simran: I'm not sure which one it falls under yes so you know the signs showed up for probably four or five weeks before I got frustrated enough at not knowing what they meant that I again spoke out loud and that is a key point that I talk about in the new book signs.  A lot of what has come to me is because I allowed myself to speak out loud and I think that our voices and our words have a lot of power.

The Four Pillars of mastery

I kind of frustrated yelled out either tell me what these numbers mean or make them stop and in the moment I got this knowing of what the 11 11 signified and that specifically signified a Gateway. A Gateway of, four pillars of mastery, that we are each to walk through to create Mastery in our lives and those four pillars are:

  • physical
  • mental
  • emotional and
  • spiritual

Every experience that comes in our way is part of that Mastery that we are here to allow ourselves to engage those, four pillars, to grow us in our spiritual maturity. Once I understood that and then I got downloaded with this visions of 11 11 magazine and 11 11 talk radio and books that I would write and things like that.

I began to discover that the Universe speaks to us in all kinds of ways every single day multiple times using everything around us.

Myrna: That is awesome. What is the difference between, signs and symbols, and  synchronicity?

Podbean Transform your Mind Podcast

Signs symbols and synchronicity

Signs and symbols, as those types of things that appear as the  mirror reflection, the momentary Guidance, the inkling to act or move or be inspired to make a shift or a change. That's why the subtitle of the book has to do with Pathways turning points and, divine guide posts, because signs will initiate one of those three things for you. Each of those has their own purpose.

Symbols to me are already full of meaning, they have a specific meaning, they stand for something, they are an emblem, they are a mascot, they are something that you use as a totem. So symbols would be something entirely different that you would embody the energy of. For example you may receive a cardinal as a sign at one time to be more colorful in Life or to be using your voice a little bit more.

Synchronicity to me is when we are completely aligned, when we are aligned in time in space in dimension, when higher self and lower self have come into Union. You will have moments of synchronicity when we really do master all four of those pillars and we become completely aligned in our masculine and our feminine.  What you will discover is that synchronicity is all of the time, it is only when we are misaligned to synchronicity happen as these momentary instances where we all of a sudden go oh my goodness I had synchronicity.

Myrna: If you were to tell someone that's just getting started with  signs should they should they get your first book Conversations with the Universe, or should they get your current book you are going to start from the top and go to the end?

Conversations with the Universe through signs

Simran:  Start at either book The the new book Signs is a very comprehensive way to have an understanding of what signs are and the middle section is many other people and their stories about signs.  So that you realize it's not just me saying it we're all seeing something we're all having this interaction and the third section of the book actually gives you practices to develop your own, conversation with the universe.

Once you've read this book that has just come out called Signs, if you want to go deeper and really understand some different examples and a lot of the other ways that the universe is speaking to you, then I would definitely go back and and order my first book Conversations with The Universe.  It's a three-time Gold Award winner nationally and internationally and it has a tremendous expanse of how signs appear and how to incorporate that information in your daily life.

Myrna:  We spent a lot of time talking about, signs and symbols, but as you said  we're in synchronicity every day, but we only recognize it when we are out of synchronicity. For instance when I think about synchronicities I think about  coincidences, there are no coincidences in life, every moment is as it should be. So um talk about that for a minute again, how we're always in synchronicity?

Simran: I have a section on synchronicity in the book. I do talk about things like deja vu, I talk about dreaming, I talk about some of those aspects of synchronicity.  I think the best way that I can explain it is you're driving down the highway and all of a sudden there's an exit and you take that exit and you go off on this scenic route, but then you end up back on the highway. The moment you end up back on the highway there's that exact Fruit Stand that you were looking for, that is synchronicity.

When we go off on our Scenic routes, oftentimes we're out of the direction or out of alignment, out of time with exactly the things that we're supposed to line up with, synchronicity tends to happen when we get back on track and we actually are in the right place at the right time.

Self-realization comes with alignment through synchronicity

In my own personal growth and self-realization, after seven books is that synchronicity is everywhere.  Our ego wants to look at only the good things, the things that we want as the synchronicity, but sometimes synchronicity is also that moment that you get fired from your job.  That can be a synchronicity because that was a pivotal moment to get you back on track.  So synchronicity can show up a lot of different ways, and in the end what the signs are attempting to do is to help you really become neutral and span out so you see life from this Grand perspective.

When you zoom out you see that all of the light and the shadow and the Darkness that shows up in your life, creates a really beautiful picture.  When you're down in it or you're focused too narrow on the situation that you're in it either looks like dark or light or something in between that you can't quite figure out and so we stay muddled in that kind of confused state.  But as we grow in our spirituality and we can really zoom out and look at the big picture of everything, we realize that every moment, every step through the light, every slip into the dark, every stumbling of confusion created a beautiful painting known as you.

Myrna:  Tell us about your book Signs: Every day Encounters with Pathways Turning Points and Divine Guideposts. Why did you write it and what do you want readers to walk away after reading.

Using signs as a divine guidepost

Simran: I wrote Signs because after 10 years, I had learned so much more from writing the first book Conversations with the Universe, I wanted individuals of today to understand that despite what is appearing in life, that life may be hard at times, but we don't have to make it as challenging.  We can utilize what life gave us as places to find reflection as moments, to Pivot and go down a different pathway.

We can use, signs and symbols, as a turning point to create a new life or a Divine guidepost to be that confirmation of a choice that we have made. I wanted individuals to understand how to trust more, how to expand on their intuition and that the Universe really does have their back. That they are in a partnership with Spirit whether they want to acknowledge that partnership or not, that spirit is always reaching out, whether it is numbers or songs or animal or books or experiences that are happening to them.

They simply need to look at each one and pause for a second and ask themselves where is that in me, what is that here to show me about me ,what is that inspiring within me?   As you start to understand these things, as you start to grow your connection with the practices and the protocols that I placed in the third section, you start to balance out your masculine and feminine energies.

You start to see that your life is not one moment to the next moment, but entirely a Threading of golden experiences that are leading you back to the truth of your soul and your expression on this planet as a beautiful human being and it as a Divine expression of God.

The trilogy of being: signs symbols and synchronicities

Myrna:  That's great, did you want to touch on your Trilogy of self-realization the living, being and knowing.  Do you want to talk about those books?

Simran: Sure I would love to thank you Myrna, that's wonderful. I also published this year a Trilogy that really is the multi-dimensional experience of being human.  If you had been given a set of instructions upon birth to come in with that you would be able to encounter any and every experience of Life the seven blessings start off with the blessing of life and in each blessing is a certain gift that we receive in that particular blessing. We actually have the gift of, signs and symbols, and synchronicities.

It's hard to see that this cycle of seven that you live through is going to be a cycle that you repeat over and over again because your growth as a human being and as a soul is not linear it is not circular.

Myrna: Simran how can our listeners get a copy of your books tell us your website, tell us if you're on social media what are your handles.

Conclusion

Simran:  Thank you Myrna my website is iamsimran.com  you can go there and actually get discounted prices on the bundles of the trilogy or of conversations with the universe and signs and if you want all of my books, there's actually a special price bundle for that.  As well the books are available anywhere books are sold.   I invite you to partake of any of my free offerings. Why antidepressants block spiritual awakening

Myrna: What was your journey from being on antidepressants to becoming a, spiritual guide?

Bec:  When I was very young, they tried to put me on antidepressants because there is a long history of mental illness in my family. At one time, I was dealing with some pretty crippling, debilitating depression where I wanted to check out and I didn't want to be here. So finally I was put on SSRIs these are serotonin inhibitors. And so the assumption with those meds is that your brain is not producing the serotonin. So what it does is when it releases it, it kind of holds it in the chamber. So it's building on itself, basically. So that's what it was doing. And essentially, all that really did for me was create a flatline so instead of really wanting to check out and no, I was just kind of like zombified.

So my, dark night of the soul, which I'm sure many of you kind of know what that is this process of unfolding or questioning.  I started the process of my own healing. I started taking care of my body, exercising more, reading more and mental health and development and all sorts of things like that including self help spirituality.  Everything gradually got weirder and weirder over the years. I started seeing shamans and healers and psychics.

And through the process of my healing journey, I started to ask, you know, what am I here for, what's my purpose? And that kind of got me into the trajectory of being a coach. So I started out as a coach in news 2018.  When I said yes to coaching, my whole mission or my purpose really opened up to me.  I kept meeting all these healers and then started having these experiences in these realms, crazy stuff happening, speaking to spirits, etc.

I was in Bali, trying to make my business work, I'd also gone off the meds. I was purging so much trauma, like it was like lifetimes of trauma, like extreme amounts of sadness and trauma. I was crying every day didn't know why. And towards the end of the year, after a year of trying to make my business work I kept getting this message that I'm this Healer.

Bec's Kundalini Awakening

So I said to God if I'm this healer that everyone keeps telling me and then show me and literally like the next day I started having these completely crazy experiences where I was remembering my past lives. I had a spontaneous, kundalini awakening, where I was having these physical things happening to me and speaking other languages and wild emotions. From that moment, it was like three or four months from going to bed a normal person, no concept or idea of any of the spiritual stuff to suddenly remembering past lives, moving energy, doing healing work, helping other people to remember their past lives and activating healers.

Myrna: I learned so much by being on this on this show and interviewing people. I've interviewed I mean a one or two Shamans, so I know what it is. One gentleman went to one of these retreats and that's how he opened himself up to the, kundalini energy. Did you go to any retreats? Or did you just lay in bed and it started coming in?

Bec: To me, so this is like some stuff around the word shaman and I used to say I was a shamanic healer and people would always call me a shaman. The word shaman actually has cultural roots in specific places of the world. So I try not to use that word anymore because there's like a lot of charge around it and I just don't want to negate anyone's experience.  Let's call a spade a spade I am a shaman, basically, because to me, a shaman is someone who traverses the realms between spirit and this physical realm.

Transform Your Mind Amazon
Transform Your Mind Amazon

What is a Shaman?

Shamans talk to Spirit, they talk to plants, they talk to animals, they talk to all sorts of various things, non physical beings. So essentially, I that's what I do, and that's what I am. And I had seen a few healers, so I'd seen I was seeing a shaman in Melbourne a couple times I saw him and he didn't use plant medicine. He was like me, he was just a healer. So I maybe had two sessions with him. And basically it was a self initiation process for me so I didn't have the assistance of someone else. It was like because my soul was so ready to come and embody my purpose in this lifetime.

The moment I was like, show me that it was like Okay, now it's time for you to remember.  It's like it all just came online. And that was like, Oh my God. I have all this wisdom, but I don't know where it came from. I can move energy. I remember this stuff. I remember how to do exorcisms and wild stuff.

Myrna: I know a few people who can remember past lives. I follow is Sadhguru and he's able to talk about all his past lives and you know, he became a mystic. It just happened for him, you know, one day he sat down for 14 days or something like that and when he got up, he was a mystic, he was able to see and do and all these amazing things. Why is it that we don't remember our past lives and how is it that you could?

Bec: Yeah, absolutely. So we come here as souls to learn lessons because there is no other place in the universe that is dense. When I say dense, I mean, it's heavy, physically, like it's heavy. When we move past the third dimension, which is the fourth dimension onwards, we lose the physicality so fourth dimension above it's a lighter frequency, right. So emotions for instance, like anger is dense. It's a lower frequency and then joy is very high. Just like that physical reality has different density to a frequency vibration has different density. So this realm of reality is very dense and it's also the lifespans and very short, so souls choose and agree before they kind of reincarnate to come here because it's, it's very good for learning lessons.

Podfriend Transform Your Mind Podcast
Podfriend Transform Your Mind Podcast

Remembering past lives ancestral trauma

It's very good for learning through pain through contrast through whatever it is. It's like a matrix, right? It's okay to gain come here and learn lessons. And so we choose to come here to learn these lessons, but a lot of the time we need to forget everything that we know, so then we can have this experience because if I came into this lifetime remembering I was this priestess, I was a highly dimensional being of love. I wouldn't have gone through all the things that I went through that enables me to get to that point to then become the leader that I am.

For instance, if you had an illness or a chronic disease of some sort. If you knew that it was all a game and you could very quickly heal yourself because you have that capacity. Would you learn through that illness? Then it would negate the purpose right? So it's almost like if we know the end, the story the journey is pointless.

Myrna: I listen to you know, Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer and even, Abraham Hicks. So all those people that I listened to and they said we chose our parents, we chose the womb. We chose everything just like you're saying because we want to experience certain things in order to, you know, to learn, as you say, so it's nothing like that, you know? But so how do we learn to surrender and work with the divine?

How to bring in the Divine

Bec: Yeah, so part of that is, as much as we chose this human or this vessel or this identity, that version of you who's Myrna or me, sure we chose these personalities. And ironically we spend most of our life building up these personalities of I am separate. This is who I think I am and I have this identity as a priestess or woman or a daughter or whatever it is stories of who we are, in order to surrender and allow the divine to work through us. We almost need to let go of identification with ourselves as unlimited small being and start seeing ourselves as a source or creator.

So like, for instance, if you take a bucket of water out of the ocean, is it still the ocean? And of course it is still the ocean. And just like that, we have fractals of the one, the one source of energy, some people call that God, the universe, different frameworks and understanding the same thing, but we are literally a fraction of source. So in order to allow that part of ourselves to take more responsibility in our life or work through us, it's almost like we need to relinquish our identities. We need to relinquish our attachments, we need to relinquish our stories of what we think we know.

Myrna: Dr Joe Dispenza in his book Becoming Supernatural is teaching us to connect with universal unified energy field. So is that how you're doing it? Are you letting go of your physical body and your mind and connecting through energy?

Bec: Yeah, so one of my gifts in this life is to be this transmitter for frequency and it's very unique, like shamans do a lot of different things and speak to spirits and all of this stuff. That's literally one of my gifts in this life is to be essentially a very big radio transmitter, which is why I do activations through spoken word and all sorts of things. Because it's like source frequency comes through me and that's amplified.

Using Kundalini Energy to connect to the unified field

I channel energy through my body from different places or from other galaxies and planets and from the earth. So the Earth has her own grid of energy right so like we have our chakra system and there's different chakra points of different places in the earth. And what people like myself or people who learn to use this energy can do is they can face themselves and specific points and call that energy through their body to like magnify like magnify what they're doing.

So yeah, essentially that is what I'm doing. I'm using this energy from the unified energy field. I'm using energy from other beings,  from angels and spirits, whatever, God to channel through me.  I love Dr Joe Dispenza. I've been to his events. I think he's amazing. But his breathing technique that he teaches in his books of the squeezing and pulling the mind out of the body, that's literally Kundalini, he is awakening Kundalini within you. So your Kundalini is this energy that's connected to your life force.

The Kundalini is connected to Shakti which is feminine, and Shiva, which is the masculine and when you can get Shakti which is the feminine to go up to the masculine which is in your crown Shiva consciousness. Then it's divine union, which is union with everything within itself within the world within the universe. So he's teaching basically how to activate your Kundalini. Kundalini is healing energy. It's life force energy.

Myrna: Let's talk about your Kundalini experience. You calling it the dark night of the soul.

Kundalini Awakening: Orgasmic energy

Bec: l We all have different kinds of experiences with it. Mine was particularly intense and I think it's because I'm here to help people with this. So you can have different volumes of it or strengths of, Kundalini energy, moving through your body, and it can manifest as a tickle like a slight energy pulse or sensation of tingling in your body or heat. Or for me, it's like full body orgasms. I felt  like I was getting penetrated by spirit, like literally having sex with someone and there's no one there. And it's incredible, but that's not the purpose of it.

Because sexual energy is just healing energy. It is life force energy, it's pure creation energy.  So of course it's going to feel orgasmic because the orgasm is how we are burning things right as how we're creating. So you can channel that energy into creativity. You can channel into healing, you can channel into mystic purposes. So like opening your third eye, channeling healing, all sorts of things. It can be used for pretty much anything, but people will like, Oh, I feel this is sexual energy. So therefore, I'm aroused and it's, sexual energy.

With the, Kundalini awakening, you can spontaneously start moving your body into all sorts of weird positions, kind of like yoga poses almost contorting.  I found myself on the floor with like my legs in my chest. Like, you know, you see the exorcisms and they're like doing the crazy stuff. Many times speaking in tongues.  My Kundalini is always so active and awakened because of who I am, I have mystical experiences of profound oneness and love and bliss and ecstasy and literally speaking to God on a random Tuesday.

I've come here to experience spiritual mastery, because I've experienced that in so many lifetimes. I've come here to embody humanity with the spiritual mastery.

Myrna: How can people connect with you?

Bec: I have my own podcast called “Cracked Open” where I talk about all of this stuff.  My website is www.becmylonascom You can find me on Instagram @becmylonis. I kind of facilitate or hold spaces for people to activate their gifts, activate the past life stuff and really activate that purpose. So check out on my website. I've always got offerings. I'm starting my next three month kind of process. I guess you want to call it with people called rebirth soon and that's a complete journey to like decondition and remove and purge and clear all the past life pain and trauma and activating that mission.

The soul is part of our spiritual body

Humans have two bodies. We have a physical body and then we have a, spiritual body. The, spiritual body, comes from an atom that is placed in utero when we are conceived. And the physical body grows around that atom. So, as we grow physically, the spiritual body grows. So, you have this miniature body that is growing inside of you. And it is housed in your solar plexus.

And there's a cord that attaches to your breastbone, which is called the silver cord. When you die and go to the other side, your soul has to go because a soul is not born, it was created. And so, it has to go back up to the etheric world. So, gravity doesn't stop it because it just goes, but what I figured out this cord is connected to the, vagus nerve, which is the longest nerve in your body.

It goes from the top comes down goes around your neck, the amygdala, which controls the fight flight or frozen impulses, and then goes down your spine into your heart and into your stomach. Darwin said in the 1700s, that this was your pneumo gastric nerve.

So, I started studying the, vagus nerve. Dr. Porges was teaching you this, vagus breath, where you breathe in, for instance to the count of four, and then you breathe out as long as you can go because that relaxes the, vagus nerve.

Myrna: I do the, vagus breath, I do breathe in for 4, hold for 4 and out for 6.

Vagus nerve and spirituality

Karen: That's fine once it's a longer outlet. However, you do it calms down the, vagus nerve, so that people with post-traumatic stress or panic, anxiety can calm themselves down. So, I started teaching that we all have this, vagus nerve, and we are responsible for keeping it calm.

Myrna: Okay, a couple of circle backs there. Wow. I keep saying this every week. I love my work. So, let's talk about the soul because I've heard before that the soul goes in and out. Right, it's in front of you. Sometimes it goes in and it's around the, solar plexus. I've actually never heard before that the soul is connected to a cord and your body grows around it.

Karen: It forms a mass of some kind. So that could be atoms, protons, chemicals, I'm not sure what it looks like coming up the, vagus nerve, but some people have explained that they actually saw it outside of their body. That the soul is egg shaped and it's connected by the silver cord is connected by a cord because it always needs the oxygen from your physical body in order to survive. Now, so, people that have had this experience where they can leave from the physical body and go into the, spiritual body, that is called, astral travel.

The soul travels in and out of the physical body

So, when you talk about the soul it can be right out in front of you. When you sleep at night, supposedly, this, etheric body, can come out the top of your head and can be laying straight over you. And some different men that have written books about leaving their body a lot. They didn't necessarily have spiritual experiences. They just left their body.

Now, I know that they talk about trauma or an auto accident, where your soul body can just come straight out but that's in trauma. Right? They say when that happens your, etheric body, your soul is very confused, because it just got jarred out you can imagine. Right? But the typical way what I've read is that if you die in your bed at night or in the ambulance, if people are clairvoyant, they can see your soul leaving your body through the top of your head and then turns into this beautiful light.

Sometimes they see an angel coming that will take you, sometimes they see your deceased relatives come over to take you. And they're giving you a hand so that you can be lifted.

The soul sticks around for a review after death

Myrna: I heard that was from Dr. Wayne Dwyer. He was not clairvoyant, but he talked about an experience where he was on a beach in Hawaii, and this woman drowned and he was able to see her soul hover above her body. I also heard several places that the soul sticks around for three days. or something like that.

At the core though this is new information to me. I also know about, astral travel, where the mystics can actually leave their body and come back. I do a spiritual warfare prayer that says that you are blocking, astral travel, because people can use that for evil.

So, you're saying that the people that have seen the soul.  Everybody that talks about the other side, whether it's a, near death experience, or your rebirth experience, talks about beauty and love on the other side.

Karen: Well, I think it's easier when we try to understand that we have three metaphysical systems that swirl around us at all times. And the first one is the sensory reality, where you and I are speaking now. Sensory reality that's normal reality we have this second reality is the, Clairvoyant reality. Oh, that is what your soul with anybody that can see your soul body, outside of you is clairvoyant.

Near death experiences: The soul leaving the body

So, when people have a, near death experience, and they go up there and maybe about 20% of them have the spiritual part where they see the flowers and the beautiful music and smell the perfume and everything's wonderful. They usually meet a deceased person, a loved one who tells them it's not your time and you have to come back.

And then they have a lot of pain and depression about that. Carl Jung had a vision in the 1940s. And he called it a vision because there wasn't the term, near death experience, yet. He was in the hospital. He had a heart attack and he left his body and he went out into the universe, and he saw Earth. So, when he describes his pictures of Earth, the descriptions that what the guys who would face when they took pictures of Earth exactly the same thing. He had that kind of everybody has maybe a little different version. I mean, some people have the classic, near-death experience.

Okay, and I what I've learned with the research is, I believe, number one, that the Holy Spirit is in charge of, spiritual experiences, and that your soul determines what kind of, spiritual experience, you're going to have. When you go into this clairvoyant space. Everything is calm and beautiful and loving. You're touching some part of that fourth dimension

Book: The Psychology of the Soul in the Paranormal

My book is called Psychology of the Soul in the Paranormal. Some people have a, near death experience, and the, vagus nerve, becomes bigger because it vibrates. Okay, so when things vibrate, it causes structure to shift. So, then something happens around their ears, they say, and their whole-body shifts. It turns counterclockwise. Then what happens is that this, etheric body, just gets pushed up the, vagus nerve, and at the top of the head.

So this is how the soul leaves the physical body around the ears, whirring noises is heard. This sends out an impulse to change rotation of the body, and the vibration is now getting stronger in that nerve. And this activates the sacrum through the, vagus nerve, in the middle of our sympathetic and parasympathetic sections of the nervous system.

As chemicals are being released. The energy pierces the top, the center of your skull, where the medulla oblongata and the pineal gland open the top sharp, which is where your soft spot used to be. And people usually hear a click in the head area, which results in one's leaving one's body, expanding their consciousness with an out of body or near death. And this bodily energy would be like the energy that powers the orgasmic response.

So, your physical body become shaken down to a molecular level and atomic level activating the, spiritual body, to leave the physical body going up the, vagus nerve, silver cord which is attached at the breastbone because you need that to attach when you leave so that you get oxygen while you're up there flying around. Okay. This magnetic operation depends entirely on the pure effort of the soul using the spirit of, etheric body, through the Highway of the, vagus nerve.

Your life review after death

Myrna: I love the word highway. That's a good word for it.

Karen: Those are according to your research. The soul starts immediately flying around. It takes three days to so leaves because the soul actually goes through a life review where they get a movie of their life from the time they were born until they just died. And that is given to them. From the perspective of the other people. How you treated all these people all in your life.

Myrna: You guys listening, there is accountability. Christianity is supposed to be the day of reckoning.

Karen:  According to the Reverend Dr. Karen Wynn as you die you get this life review and then they say a lot of people have been at their funeral, which is usually more than three days, that while they come back, the, etheric body, comes back because they're still like pretty low. They're a little bit above us. They say they can understand everybody's thought at that funeral, which is gonna be pretty eye opening.

Myrna: We talked about the, vagus nerve, and we talked about spirituality and how the soul leaves the body through the highway. But you also talk about the, vagus nerve, and the, spinal cord. What that connection?

Karen: Yeah, that's all I know about it that and then right around here chakras are in the same place that are invisible. And so the shoppers would be giving the vibration to the, vagus nerve, because they are circles of energy you know, so if you go to a healer, usually when they do that or Reiki they put their hands over you they are unblocking those chakras, because if you have trauma or grief or anger, it blocks those energy centers. And so then that's why you feel better when you leave after one of those here with.

book psychology of the soul

Grandma What is a Soul

Myrna: Tell us about your books. One of them is called “Grandma What is the soul? And then the other one is “Psychology of The Soul and the Paranormal.”  So, talk to us about your books. What made you write the books and what do you want people to walk away with after reading.

Karen: okay, well the first one “You're Not Finished Yet” about people that grew up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional family.  Because a lot of people that live with trauma and alcoholism. They don't believe there is a God just like I did. Because you think it's just too messy down here and you know, we're not the right people, right. So that was my beginning and then the second one was “Grandma, what is the soul” and that was because my last grandchild. When he was five. We were in the car and he said Grandma, I don't want you to die. He sounded afraid. So, so I have a PhD in spiritual psychology. So, I thought, well, I'm gonna be able to handle this one.

So, I said, I said, well, you know, you have to be really old to die. And I'm not really old yet. But you know, when I get to be really old and I die, my soul will come back and watch over you so he said, Grandma, what is the soul?

Myrna: How can listeners pick up copies of your book and connect with you?

How to Create Your Own Matrix In The Game Of Life

Your game of life - The Matrix

What “The Matrix” the movie was trying to show is that we're inside of a game, we're, consciousness, inside of the,  game of life. And so, our reality is a merging of the, game of life, outside the body.  When Noe realized he could control the game he says, why don't I change it? Why don’t I change the rules? Why don't I change the way I interact with it? Why don't I populate it? And that is where he's able to start to control his reality, and create his own matrix. We can all do the same thing.

Myrna: Tell us about your near-death experience?

Alana: I was in a motorcycle accident where I was in a coma and have a severe brain injury. It was actually the conclusion of one, soul's journey, and the initiation of my soul's journey. So that was the start of my adventure. And it's what's called a, walk-in soul, experience. So where one soul kind of says, okay, I'm ready to conclude my journey here on Earth, and it creates an opportunity for another soul to kind of hop in and continue the journey.

Myrna: Take us on a chronological journey.

Near Death experience and a walk in soul

Alana: Yeah, so most people are born you know, they're a baby they live a life they grow up they have school, they have childhood memories, maybe some trauma, all those experiences. And you know, when we understand the, near-death experience, somebody kind of hops out of the game for a minute and comes back right? What I'm saying is I'm actually a different soul continuing the journey of the person who created this body. So, I don't have childhood memories. I don't have a point of reference. That was a story of a soul that preceded me and I kind of came in midstream.

Myrna: Wow. In the, near-death experience, a new soul walks in.  I have never heard this before.

Alana: This is what some people call a, walk-in soul. But for me, the most powerful kind of contrast is, I don't come with the context of a life experience that most people have, most people have childhood memories. They have, you know, trauma that you can inquire or, you know, an impact about beliefs or an impression of, you know, things that they learned in school, because I kind of came in midstream, I have the benefit of some of the memories that Alana kind of left me.

Myrna: What was the experience that the original soul left that a new soul came in? You mentioned something about a motorcycle accident.

The soul agreement and game of life

Alana: In 2007 the original Alana experienced severe head injury, in a motorcycle accident and was in a coma for a good amount of time. And I would say that was the time that we kind of changed places you could say during that coma, whatever her soul had chosen was saying okay, this is going to be the conclusion of my adventure here on this earth game. I'm sure that she and I created a, soul agreement, that I would pick up where she left off.  And so I woke from the coma, started to understand, oh, this is the new life experience. These are some of the rules. These are some of the ways that she lives. These are some of the things that she did, these are some of the people that she knew, and I kind of just picked up the roll from there and carried on.

Myrna: How does a, walk-in soul, take us to the, matrix?

Alana: Yeah, so, you know, we use this term, matrix, or we use this term like the, game of life. Basically, it's an experience inside of, consciousness. And the interesting thing is people identify the, matrix, or the ego as the limitations, the obstacles, the challenges, the lack or the struggle of trauma, those types of things, right. And sometimes people identify the matrix as this force outside of us, like the government or you know, all of these other limitations; but in reality, what you need to see is the limitations are how our subconscious designs our, game of life.

The matrix or, game of life, is to be played based on what our soul identifies as wanting to experience inside of, consciousness. And so, when I talk about limiting suffering, it can be as simple as changing the way one identifies inside of consciousness. Because the way that we identify inside of, consciousness, will define the experience that we have.

What is consciousness

Myrna: Well, you know, that 99.9% of people don't even know, what is consciousness. We just show up play the, game of life. We're in the matrix and you know, it's tumbling us around and we're reacting to outside stimulus. But consciousness is a big word. And even though I'm in the space of, awareness and, consciousness, and, trying to create my own reality. I know that I'm not at the top of the game.  So, when you are saying that we're limited in our, consciousness. Explain for the layman what that means.

Alana: So there's four ways to experience reality. And as you said, 99% of people have that perspective that life happens to them that they're kind of a victim to circumstances. So, they are at the entry level of the, game of life. When people have an awakening, they start to experience a level of consciousness where they start to realize, I'm actually the observer in the game. I'm able to transcend these limitations and look at them with a different context, a more divine perspective.  All of a sudden they are able to take themselves outside of that victim-hood and say, wait, there's something else going on here.

The matrix illustrates how to play the game of life

And that's what the movie “The Matrix Movie” kind of illustrates. He takes the red pill or the blue pill and all of a sudden, he realizes the game isn't what he thought it was. Similar thing happens when people have an awakening. So, the stage that comes after the observer, is we're starting to notice okay, I can see the way this works a little bit differently. It's not necessarily happening to me, but I'm participating in it in a way that I can't quite explain. Then we get to manifesting what we want in this, matrix.

I know a lot of people who are really getting on to the idea of manifesting using affirmations, using depth of beliefs to create inside their experience. So now you're not only just observing life, but you're playing as a creator. In my experience, I can create my prosperity through my belief, I can create my relationships in a different way through my belief, now I understand myself, and we really have kind of left the victim hood and started to be more of a creator. When you play the, game of life, as a creator, it’s like putting their heart, their skin, their dreams, and their imagination into action.

And then once you really get to a place where you are merging with, divine consciousness, which can be known to some people as enlightenment, you know, we've had a lot of ascended masters that have set this example Buddha, Jesus all the other ones, right. This is where reality can be perceived as being created in real time, exclusively from our mindset. And so, this is where everything in our experience is a manifestation of the mind.

The matrix is the quantum field

Myrna: Sure, so from what I remember of the, matrix, you know, there was a body, sitting in a chair, and he took the pill and he was going to the Oracle and the Oracle said that he was the One.  But that reality of the matrix didn't actually affect the body. Right? Because there's one time he got shot in the matrix and he was sitting a chair still alive. So, help us play the game where we're in a matrix, which is the, quantum field, and then we're in our body. How does that work?

Alana: Well, I mean, there's a lot of layers to it. The first thing that I find is most valuable for everybody is we're all the guy. We are all the One. So everybody is in their own unique matrix.  What “The Matrix” the movie was trying to show is that we're inside of a game, we're, consciousness, inside of a game. And so, our reality is a merging of the, game of life, outside the body.  When he realized he could control the game he says, why don't I change it? Why don’t I change the rules? Why don't I change the way I interact with it? Why don't I populate it? And that is where he's able to start to control his reality, which is what we're talking about.

And he's able to watch himself participating in real time, which is like what manifesting is, you know, you set your intention or what Dr Joe Dispenza talks about and “Becoming Supernatural” you can heal yourself, but only because you made yourself aware of your capacity to do so. So, my cheat code that the matrix illustrates so beautifully is that our mindset is everything. How we identify is everything. We identify ourselves as always running after our next paycheck. The paychecks are going to keep running away from us. If we identify ourselves as somebody where money is running to us, money will run to us.

The Game of Life leaves clues

The game of life, this movie The Matrix, that's a clue, the book The Secret, that's a clue. And there's so many clues that are kind of naturally built into the game. And one of my favorite ways to understand the clues is to look at the life of children. Because children know how to play the, game of life. They haven't picked up the muck that kind of makes us forget. And so, what do they do? Kids play dress up, they use their imagination. They pick up a block, it becomes a car, right? Kids know how to play the, game of life, and then we pick up beliefs and the baggage from society. And just increase our degrees of forgetting until we find it again.

Myrna: How we can get in touch with you if you're on social media. Tell us your handles.

Alana: Yeah, beautiful. My handle on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/akiataetheric/ and Tiktok is @akiatsetheric. If they follow me I share a lot of juicy mind bending ideas and concepts. But most importantly I have this experience called the mirror dimension. And if you go to mirror-dimension.com You'll find my membership there we meet weekly to learn how to read your reality. It's really easy, accessible, low-cost program for people to come in and start to learn about themselves to learn about the conscious experience playing a, game of life, learning all the cues.

I find it very important for us to include unpacking people's personal experiences as demonstrations of what does this clue mean? What did that challenge what was that challenge trying to say? So, we workshop in real time in the mirror dimension to learn how to be better creators in our reality.  It's a really incredible workshop style experience for people to come and learn and grow.

How to Fly like an Eagle above the Storms of Life

fly like an eagle

Eagles, love the storm. When clouds gather, the Eagle, get excited. The Eagle, uses the, winds of the  storm,  to lift it higher. We can also learn to, fly like an eagle, above the, storms of life.

Did you suffer from Childhood sexual abuse or sexual harassment as an adult? Today on Mindset Transformation radio and podcast, I share my journey from being sexually abused as a child and how I used the, storms of life,  to, fly like an, eagle in a storm. I teach how you too can use the winds from the, storms of life,  to elevate your life to greater heights.

In this blog, we will study the, Eagle, and how the, Eagle, looks forward to the storm, because the, eagle, knows that only by using the, winds of the storm, can she elevate to greater heights. Eagles in a storm, fly above the storm. Without the, storm, she can never fly above the clouds. Similarly, in life we need challenges, hurts and disappointments to get us out of our comfort zones and teach us to fly like,  eagles in a storm.  Without the, storms of life, we would become complacent.

Here are some characteristics of the Eagle:

How to, fly like an Eagle, above the, storms of life

The crow that picks and picks at the ground, can’t rise to the heights of the eagle or is not conditioned to rise about the ground. It's mindset is to stay on the ground and peck for food.

The, Eagle, does not escape the, storm. It simply uses the, storm, to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the, storm.

When the, storms of life, come upon us — and all of us will experience them — we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief toward God and fly above the, storms of life,  like an eagle, or we can be like the crow and peck and peck on the ground.

The, storms of life, do not have to overcome us. We can allow power of, Jesus Christ, to lift us above thw, winds of the storm. Jesus Christ,  enables us to ride the,  winds of the storm, that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the, storm.

Eagles, in the, Storm

1. Eagles, fly alone at high altitude and not with sparrows or with other small birds. No other bird can go to the height of the, Eagle. We can, fly like an eagle, where no others go.
2. Eagles, have strong vision. They have the ability to focus on something up to five kilometers away. When an, Eagle, sites his prey, he narrows his focus on it and sets out to get it. No matter the obstacle, the, Eagle, will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it. We can have vision like an, Eagle, and have focus on our goals.
3. Eagles in the storm, When clouds gather the, Eagle, get excited. The, Eagle, uses the, winds of the  storm,  to lift it higher. Once it finds the, winds of the storm, the Eagle uses the raging, storm, to lift him above the clouds. This gives the, Eagle, an opportunity to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the leafs and branches of the trees. We can use the, storms of life,  to rise to greater heights. Achievers relish challenges and use them profitably.

Storms, bring destruction

I meditated on the reason for the hurricanes that caused so much destruction to homes and property in the Caribbean islands, Houston, TX and Florida. I believe that God does not make mistakes, that everything in the Universe has a purpose. So, I asked myself what is the purpose of the, storm?

My initial response from the Universe was that, storms, are created with the purpose to blow down the old and make room for the new, because everything is recycled on this earth. But I felt there was more so that is why I decided to study the, Eagle. As mentioned before. The ,Eagle, uses the, storm, to elevate him higher. He can't fly to great heights without the winds of the storm.

What if God created the, storm, to elevate his people?

The, storm, does not only blow down old trees, it blows down old houses as well, it blows down old power posts and power lines. So, in actuality we should be like the eagle and anxiously await the storm to see what old thing will be renewed.

It works for old relationships as well. There is something immensely intimate about riding out the, storm, with your loved one. Just you and your close family members. All the attention is on each other. No television, no lights just the personal connection and candle light!

I have always loved, storms. I remember the first, storm, that me and my husband rode out together. We were only dating for about 3 months. I loved the rain on the roof, the sounds of the winds rustling the roof, the sight of the palm trees blowing in the winds and being wrapped up in his arms. I think we came out of that experience closer than we went in. That is a time to really talk and share! Get to know each other.

The other thing the, storm, to the Caribbean Islands brings is new things to replace the old. If you had an old roof and the wind blew if off, guess what FEMA will give you a new one. If your pool screens were old and the wind just ripped them apart more then guess what you get new screens at no cost to you. If your old car was on its last leg, then you could park it under a tree and pray the tree falls on it! You get my point.

How you experience anything depends on how you interpret it. Change your mindset that the, storm, comes to take from you and replace it with the winds of the storm brings change. Changing out the old for the new.

Keep your eyes on, Jesus Christ, in the, storm, and you will not sink

But I still think there is more!
The bible teaches us to keep our eyes on, Jesus Christ, when we are in the, storm.
There was a time when Jesus had sent his disciples to go on before him while he stayed in the mountain to pray (Matthew 14:23).
While they were in the boat there came a, storm, “and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.”- Matthew 14:24

Seeing the distress his disciples were in, Jesus Christ, went to them, walking on water. When Peter saw, Jesus Cjrist, he asked him to allow him to come to him, by walking on the water. Peter started to walk on with his faith however, when Peter reached at a certain distance he got distracted, and when he got distracted by the boisterous wind he became afraid and started to sink.

“But when [Peter] saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’” (Matthew 14:30 NIV)

Many of us are like Peter, we started our journey with the Lord and even though the, storms of life, come our, faith, allows us to overcome these trials, you could say to ‘walk on water’. But along the way we get distracted especially when we think the situation has gone on for too long, or we come upon big, storm. I am using the, storm, here as a metaphor for trouble. It was easy to trust God when our trials were little; but what happens when the situations seem bigger than we are able to handle? What happens when we have a category 4 storm? Do we let fear in? Or do we anticipate it with the mindset that it will elevate us to new heights?

Focusing on what’s happening around us will cause us to be afraid; afraid of losing our family, losing our jobs, our homes, or being broke and not having enough to take care of our needs. We start worrying about what is going to happen next and very soon we start to sink.

The,  storm, also bring with it floods. The water could be more dangerous than the winds.
With Irma, I was going to ride out the, storm, in my home because my house is built to withstand the winds; but as soon as they started talking about 10-15 ft. storm surges. I called my husband and said we are leaving now! I was afraid of my car being under water and I pictured me on the roof waiting to be rescued. So, I understand fear!

Joel Osteen had a message about flood waters he used the analogy of your water breaking during childbirth. That flood there signals new birth as is regarded with excitement. He also reminded us that we never know when that flood is going come. His wife Victoria water broke when she was in an elevator going somewhere that was not the hospital! It is all about perception. Ask yourself what is the good that can come out of the house and car being flooded? You get new ones of course ! Usually the insurance pays!

Listen Notes Transform Your Mind

Here are five things God wants you to do if you feel like you’re sinking in a, storm.

1. Keep your eyes on, Jesus Christ, and stay focus.
The moment you take your eyes off the Lord, you will go under. When you focus on the wind and the waves — your circumstances — you’re going to sink, just like Peter. There will be many things happening in the world to get you distracted. Economies going under, crime and violence on the rise, people losing their jobs, accidents on the rise and so forth. These things will get you distress. Jesus Christ,  tells us that when we see these things happening, that is not the time to get sidetracked, but it is the time to look up (Luke 21:28.)

2. Do not be fearful, Jesus is with you in the, storm.
When you’re in a, storm, it is very easy to become fearful, fearful that you will not get rid of a sickness, fearful that your marriage will end, fearful that your child will die, fearful that you will not be able to pay off your debts or bills and still have enough money to survive. But when fear comes, and it will come, take authority over it and stand on the promises of God that he will always be with you. Fear comes with torment and that’s why Jesus gives us peace (John 14:27). Peace that will help you to ride out your storms.

3. Don’t let go of, faith.
Faith, is like our heavenly currency that we use to draw what we need from the spiritual realm. When you maintain your faith you will receive strength to weather the, storms of life.

4. Don’t doubt.
You don’t need great, faith, to make it through the, storms of life. You just need faith in the right person, that is, Jesus Christ. Peter started to sink when he started to doubt.

Maybe you could benefit from a Training Kit that teaches you how to Maximize your achievement and Fly above the storms. Click below to order The Maximum Achievement Training Kit from best selling author Brian Tracy.

5. Praise God.
Praise is a weapon, a very powerful one. It confuses the enemy as he cannot understand how you able facing your storms but will have a praise. When Jehoshaphat was facing a large army, he did not use swords to fight his battle, he just praised God and his enemies were totally destroyed. Even in the storm, even when you feel like you’re sinking, even when you’re scared to death — praise him all the time.

Overcoming, Self Defeating,  behavior by changing your Mindset

Mindsets are beliefs – beliefs about yourself and your most basic qualities.

Think about your intelligence, your talents, your personality. Are these qualities simply fixed traits, carved in stone or can you cultivate and grow these traits?

Your intelligence is not a fixed quantity which cannot be increased. With practice, training, and above all method, we can increase our attention, our memory, our judgment and become more intelligent than we were before.

In a, Fixed Mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits thus the, self defeating, behavior

In a Growth Mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work.

The, Fixed Mindset, is a, Defeated Mindset

The, fixed mindset, creates an internal dialogue that is focused on judging. e.g

  • “I am a loser”
  • “I am the giver in this relationship and I get nothing in return”
  • “I am a no good husband”
  • “My partner is selfish only thinks about himself”

People with a, growth mindset,  are sensitive to positive and negative information; but they're attuned to its implications for learning and growing. They ask themselves “What can I learn from this” How can I improve “How can I help my partner do better.

How to Overcome, Self Sabotage, at Work

I have always been someone who spent years trying to move my life forward I always say that I am a dreamer;  but the problem was I made decisions and choices in my life that counteracted that data.  I told myself I wanted to move forward; but everything that I did was, self sabotage, my behavior caused me to move backwards.

If I stopped and did an honest self-assessment and really seek God for direction on what am I needed to do. I would figure out  why  I was  seemingly repeating the same, self sabotaging, cycles in my life.  It was at that point that I began to really recognize certain, defeated mindsets, or negative truth about myself that I held  about myself subconsciously that was preventing me from moving forward and continuing these, self defeating behaviors.

For instance I'll give you an example. I am very career-driven, so I desire to move up the career ladder.  I have a master's degree in marketing;  but whenever I went to apply for a director level or VP level positions, I get intimidated and, self sabotage, by talking myself out of applying for that position. I would apply and start working at a lower position and then the next couple of months I'm miserable.

Inevitably my employer would see in me what I couldn't see in myself and they would give me more responsibility. Then I would complain about being overworked and underpaid.  My, defeated mindset, would make me, self sabotage, and take a lower position than I was qualified for.  Then I would leave these jobs because it wasn't what I wanted and then the cycle would begin all over again at another company.

I had to say OK God I need your help.  Give me the courage to jump in even though I felt fear.

What is a, Defeated Mindset

Myrna: Let me not skip over this huge opportunity to ask you Sabrina. Since you've done whole bunch of self-assessments,  why did you have a, defeated mindset, and, self sabotage,  yourself all those years?  Why did you not have confidence in your abilities?

Sabrina: That is a great question Myrna,  and that was something I had to really pinpoint.  I was listening to a speaker and he said when you lack self-confidence, somewhere along the line in your life someone fed into your mind that you were not good enough. That you were not worthy enough.  I started looking back on past unhealthy relationships and past hurts and start to really connect the guys who rejected me.  Hurts from past relationships.

I had to rely on my faith and ask God for guidance. Outside of that I read a lot of self-help books and articles on how to overcome a, defeated mindset,  how to build your confidence and how to speak with confidence;  but a lot of it, the core of it really has to go back to the words that I was speaking to myself.  So when I started to get intimidated by the Job description, I would remind myself that I have done this job in the past.  You're not going to take a different role in the company then do this job and not get paid for it. I started being my own cheerleader.

Here are 4 steps to Overcome, Self Sabotage

  1. Become aware of your emotions. Your emotions are the language of your body.
  2. Change your emotions by thinking of want you want. Eg. You have applied for a promotion 2 times now and you keep being passed over. A, defeated mindset, says I am never going to get this job I had better get used to this and begin to, self sabotage, Instead imagine yourself in this new position. Feel in your body how it would feel to sit at that desk with your name on the door.
  3. Your emotions will change and so will your body. It believes it is living in the future now.
  4. That’s the way to get over, self sabotaging behavior. Change your brain to change your life.

How to Heal Your Brokenness

How to Heal Brokenness

My pastor taught a sermon on, brokenness, a few months back, and he made the analogy of a, broken, vase.  He said that a, broken, or cracked vase cannot hold any content, everything leaks out. We must heal our, brokenness if we are going to hold love, self-esteem, self-worth, or confidence.

Certified Life coach, Myrna Young and registered social worker, Arifah Yusaf discuss, How to Heal your Brokenness,

The LORD is near to the, broken hearted, And saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

In this blog and podcast here are some of the mental health topics we will be discussing every week.  We want to discuss real life issues and struggles of the, minority woman:

Brokenness
Brokenness

Lets start with, How to Heal your Brokenness,

My pastor taught a sermon on, brokenness, a few months back, and he made the analogy of a, broken, vase.  He said that a, broken, or cracked vase cannot hold any content, everything leaks out.  That means that if you are, broken hearted,

  • you cannot hold love,
  • you cannot hold appreciation,
  • you cannot hold compliments,
  • you are incapable of receiving and holding anything.

So it is very important for us to find our cracks and mend them.  As, minority women, most of us have experienced some, brokenness, in our lives.

Here are the top 3 reasons for, Brokenness:

  1. Devalued and rejected by others
  2. Abandoned by our parents
  3. Feelings of not being good enough because we have lack.

 How do we Heal, brokenness?

I know in our practice of social work and in psychology, a lot of clinical professionals, look at the research study around ACES which is our first childhood experiences.

That study basically states that childhood experiences before the age of 18, whether that be witnessing abuse or being abused themselves, living in poverty or just going through traumatic events; Those experiences impact their, brokenness, as they grow up into adulthood.  It may impact how they maneuver through success or how they view themselves as  failures.

These experience are also linked to risky health behaviors, chronic health conditions, low life potential and even early death.

Transform your Mind TuneIn Radio
TuneIn Radio

Myrna Young, Life Coach, I agree that risky behaviors from, brokenness, usually means an absence of self-love and that can definitely lead to early death.

I am going to niche down in our conversation today to address women of color and, minority women, because that's who we are.

As women we can be, broken, both in our childhood and by narcissistic men in our adult lives, who have rejected us or devalued us.

Our, brokenness, becomes compared with the, broken hearted.   Also when we experience, brokenness, as children those experiences can leads us to get into unhealthy relationships.    Healing our, brokenness,  prevents us from repeating this pattern of unhealthy relationships that would leave us, broken hearted.

It takes work to heal our cracks.  The first step in coaching is to identify how you became, broken, and then replace your subconscious programming with a new program similar to writing over a CD disk.

How to heal the, Broken Hearted

  1. Acknowledge that you are, broken
  2. Follow the pain – pay attention to where it hurts
  3. Trust outside eyes. Have close trusted friends to tell you what they see. This can also be a, life coach, who can uncover your blind spots.
  4. Allow love to mold you like the potter molds clay.
  5. Pray and meditate on the fruits of the spirit, peace, joy, love

Here is a story on, How we become broken, and the process of healing.

Arifah – In my years of practice, I obviously had a lot of opportunities to engage young people who have expressed feeling, broken, based on their lived experiences or their adverse childhood experiences.  As we talked about earlier in the segment, those experiences impact how they view themselves,  how they show up in relationships, in their place within society or their environments.

I recall speaking with this young woman who shared witnessing domestic abuse at home.  She actually found her mother's body when she came home from school one day. She was then placed into the foster care system.  At 18 years old having nowhere to go, she was placed into a shelter.  I remember her telling me that she really struggled with her identity and her self-esteem.  She harbored resentment towards her family because nobody had come to claim her in Foster care which magnified her, brokenness.

In her late teens she became pregnant and wanted to connect with her family; because she was starting to feel isolated and she wanted her child to know more about her family history. But she faced rejection once more. She decided that it was all up to her, to make a difference in her child's life.

She then stared setting small goals for herself and accomplishing them.  That started building her self-esteem until she recovered from her, brokenness. She became more engaged in her community and connected with other single mothers. She stopped blaming others or comparing herself to others and continued her healing process.

She decided to develop a plan with a network of positive healthy people. Eventually  she stopped defining herself as, broken, because she realized that she really could make a difference in the life of her child. It was all up to her, no one else.  Like the analogy of the broken vase, she couldn’t hold self-esteem, or self-worth, as a broken vessel, everything leaked out. When she became whole everything stayed in.  That is, how to heal your brokenness,

She currently lives in Arizona with her husband, Frederic, and their two boys, Alexander and Maxim. You can meet her on the web at www.QuantumSuccessBook.com,

I read your bio and I'm thinking wow this woman is where I want to be. So we're going to start out by just asking you a kind of a background question you've accomplished quite a lot. Can you tell us your journey to this point in your career in life.

Searching for purpose

Well, I basically did everything that my parents told me, you know, Go get a degree, get a good job, put money in the Bank, have a nice fit body, find a guy! I had all that, and still I was just really really empty. I wasn't really happy. I was missing an essential part of myself. So I started going on a search for meaning.

I had this you know like when you're really thirsty for water that's how I felt spiritually. I felt like I just didn't know that there's wasn’t any real purpose or meaning in what I was doing. It seemed like the more money I made, it didn’t make me any happier. I went on this quest and really learned about meditation and learned about how our thoughts create our reality and learned about energy and how we are either attracting things to us or repelling things from us.

All these different philosophies started changing me, and I started changing my thoughts one by one and started shifting my energy and things literally just started shifting before my eyes. When I was searching at one point I was thirty pounds overweight, $60,000 in debt, I had just broken up with the latest bad guy, and I moved to California and I didn’t know anybody.

I Had quit my job also so I I had nothing going on in my life, when I found this information and it was amazing because within just a very few short weeks I got a great job, I was transferred to a different part of California, I found a really wonderful man, and I was in an eight-year relationship with, my body naturally went back to normal size.

Using the Law of attraction to have it all

Things were just flowing and easy, and what I was learning about was the universal laws that I now teach. I’ve shared my experiences of how I’ve created a great career, maintained my weight, and attracted an ideal partner. I've been coaching on, Law of Attraction, and, Universal Laws. Besides the, Law of Attraction, I just share my experiences and I share what I do, and what I learned and what I know not to do, and I just created an amazing business.

I'm serving people, and seeing people transform, and I feel passionate about it. Each and every day, back when I when I was in that space, I was making money, I was a pharmaceutical rep, but I didn't feel like I was on purpose. I didn't feel like what I was doing really had much meaning and so I started to really connect with the feeling of what would it feel like that if I did something and I was on purpose?

I didn't know what purpose looked like, but I started just allowing myself to feel that the essence of the purpose, of what it would just feel like. Even if I didn't know the how or the form or anything and then what happened with amazing. I had a book downloaded through me and that became my first book “Perfect Pictures.” I got it published and my family and friends all bought the book and it wasn't like they were the ones to read self-help books.

I started speaking at Spiritual Book Stores and Churches and while I was doing that, doing workshops on my book, I would take people through meditations and they started asking me to coach them. I had no idea back then, and we were talking you know 16 years ago, 17 years ago. I had no idea what Life Coaching was and most people didn't. I decided to just have people call me on the phone and started really appreciating their transformation. I'm grateful that my stuff it's universal and it helps every single person, no matter what circumstance or situation there going through. We can change all of it by knowing and applying these laws.

Tips for having it all

That's an awesome story I Absolutely love it. Dr Wayne Dyer says that that's how he's written all this books. He wakes up at 3.15 am in the morning and it's just downloaded. I just completed a series with the author of the Millennial’s Playbook to Adulting, Millennials do just that.

Whether it's their parents or a guidance counselor or somebody they find a job, they find the guy, and then they get married or something but it doesn't light them up it doesn't light them up because they’re going about it based on the jobs that's available or income or something along those lines.  It's a great thing to teach because whenever you are on purpose and whenever something lights you up and whenever you follow the, Laws of the Universe, which most people don't know what they are, you find happiness.

Most people don't understand the, Laws of Attraction, and how thoughts work. That's the only way that you can design your life. I'm glad that we're going to be diving into that subject in our next episode; but today we want to talk about your book “The Art of, Having it All,” I'm jumping ahead of myself. Before we get in to that. I want to bring attention to the word you used to introduce your coaching program “Quantum Success.

I love the word that you use to introduce your coaching program. I follow Deepak Chopra. He was my first mentor and when I wrote my first book which was called “Becoming Conscious, my Awakening” I talked about the Quantum and synchro destiny; but you're calling it, Quantum Success; so my follow-up question is “what do you feel is the blueprint to your coaching program and what is your definition of quantum success and, having it all, ?”

Using Quantum energy to have it all

I want to say I'm not a superwoman, I'm just an ordinary woman that has learned about universal laws and, having it all. Every single person listening have the power to create your life the way you want it. Quantum success, for me it was really about, I lived the first part of my life not, having it all, so far pushing, striving, setting goals, it was really when I found the knowledge, and the information on energy and that I understood, the energy that you hold while you're moving towards something is even more important than the inert action of the goal.

We're both physical and non-physical beings. If you're not doing that from a place of alignment then any momentum that you take is a waste of energy, it's a waste of time. You know a lot of times people are moving they're doing stuff and they're taking tons of action and it's eventually going to give them the success that they want; but they're going to hit a wall because if their thought process is different or their emotions on how they feel about themselves or even the way they think about themselves, the way they reflect on themselves, the way they judge and solve problems.

All of that stuff holds us back from really being able to allow the alignment and the flow of the, Quantum field, or what some call God, what some call Goddess. That consciousness that create whatever you want. When you start to bring in deliberately, having it all, the kind of energy that you want to experience, whether its success, or love, or abundance, or prosperity, or security.

Success is having it all

As long as you're doing it consistently, because everything is vibration. So when you do the action and take the action towards what you want to manifest and align your thoughts your emotions your perspective with succeeding, in that space of success. You imagine what would success look like? What does, having it all, look like? What would successful feel like?

If you had the career that you really wanted, that was firing on all cylinders what would that look like for you? I wrote in my last book “The Art of, Having It All,” It’s really about what does having it all look like to you. Is, Having it All, someone else’s definition? It's what lights you up that moves you forward. It's a life force that’s pulsating through you, that wants to become something more. It's up to us as, that non-physical part of that energy.

Cooperate with it instead of trying to cut it off and that's what most people do. Complaining and judging other people or they play like a victim. All those things are literally slicing up and siphoning off your life force energy, and it won't move you towards the desires that you want. We need to ask ourselves. How do I want to feel?

Then start to as much as you can, as often as you can, get in that feeling place. I mean the good thing is about the, Quantum field,  is that this is a holographic universe and so any emotion that has ever been felt can be easily felt by you. Circumstances and situations don't have to happen. We have the capacity as human beings to visualize and to feel our way into things, and to change a thought and you know these are all things that we can do because the thoughts that we have are not real, so we have to direct our thoughts towards what we want and why we want it, to, having it all, and how we want to feel.

Your vortex holds your un-manifested desires

That is awesome, we are so in sync on the things. My next question we're going to be talking a little bit about Abraham Hicks; she talks about the, vortex, when I do my meditation that's what I say. Everything in my vortex will be eventually be available to me, if not immediately but eventually. It’s all about vibration. I was listening to podcast last week and the guest was saying we have Three superpowers, and one of the superpowers was imagination. He reminded me that anything we can imagine, we can create. Whether you're imagining what you want or what you're imagining what you don't want it's real and it's going to manifest.

A lot of people think our, vortex, is outside of ourselves; but the, vortex, is within us. The, vortex, is inside us, so it's not something we have to wait for. It's like we just have to get into alignment with it because it's already there. It's the Creator that pulses pulsates through us. I'm going to get into a discussion of energy for a second. Most people think I'm going to manifest something or, Law of Attraction; but thoughts always create some kind of emotional reaction.

It's really the emotions, so we're viewing something we see something like a tree we look at the tree and we just kind of have the stimulus, we perceive it without eyes and we enjoy it. So energy is flowing in and it's flowing out, it's just kind of like a stimulus we see the ocean it comes in and it comes out. Well when someone says something rude to us or says something hurtful, or maybe you get in car accident, or you lose a loved one, or your bill comes and you can't pay it or whatever it is.

Those moments in life cause us to constrict our energy and we create blocks around it. Those blocks also create a vortex of energy because energy has to continue to move, it goes out, or it goes up, because that is constantly moving, it's never ending. So if energy come through and instead of feeling an emotion, like how that person hurt us or that person was rude or that person made us angry, we constrict the energy.

That creates a block and then that creates a vortex, that vortex is active, it's alive. That's the, vortex, that creates a thought and then the thoughts create a belief. It then creates some kind of physical manifestation of it and then we go, see it's true. You say No matter what I do, I can't seem to get ahead. Men are always cheating on me. We have to be careful and aware of where we're getting energetically charged and start to release those blocks, so that we can get back in that free flow again of feeling the love and the alignment.

The Art of having it all

I do the work, I want to be, having it all, I don't only coach; but I do a lot of mind work because I'm aware at that everything starts in the mind, which is why I call this podcast “The Transform your Mind” because everything starts there. But I loved about the, quantum field, as it relates to success. I actually never thought about it that way until you mentioned it; but you said if you want to move towards something because that's the, quantum field, that's energy that's moving and you have to be an alignment to that goal.

If you I want to red Mercedes but then immediately you say well I can never afford it, that's what you’re talking about, as far as you're not moving in alignment. I Actually absolutely love putting it all together. If you want success you've got to hold what you want in front of you so that you can be strategically moving towards it and also be aware of the energy that you're talking about. If you've got stuck energy, you've got blocked energy or you you're feeling bad then you're actually blocking your flow.

So, the next question I Want to ask you is about the luminaries and thought leaders that you mentioned in your bio. I love them all I didn't know much about Marianne Wilkinson, but I love Dr Wayne Dyer, I'm listening to two of his audio books right now. One is on Balance which is almost the same thing we're talking about today.

I have a Neale Donald Walsch book in my library “Conversations with God” It was one of the best books I have read. I studied that book. And Abraham Hicks, love her. There's was a point in time that I meditated with her every morning. I Picked those three because those are the ones that I know. So what are some of the lessons that you've learned from these luminaries as it you know as it relates to our topic today? Having it all, and, Quantum Success?

I heard of Wayne Dyer probably about 20 years ago. My therapist at the time she was a spiritual psychotherapists, she brought in the spiritual approach, she would hand me CDs, actually back then it was cassette tapes of Wayne Dyer and Marianne Williamson, and so they were my first two early teachers.

There are only 2 emotions love and fear

I really liked the perspective that Marianne talks about because she would talk about the Course In Miracles and how there's really only two emotions, either love or fear; so that really helped me start to connect with the energy and paying attention between, high vibration, or, low vibration, and then of course Wayne Dyer was huge for me in the whole getting in the perspective of my thoughts.

During that time that's when I was learning that your thoughts create your reality and so I was learning that not all thoughts are real and that we have places where as normal human beings we typically automatically think in these ways and for me it was like wow okay, so I'm normal right and yet I have to change these if I want to continue to change my life.

His work has always just been really touched my soul and in the time that I've been able to meet him and you know it just he really is one of those people that really was because he's passed on, but he really walks his talk. He truly was a lightworker and I could feel that it around him and it was there was an authenticity that and of what he taught and how he lived so that's what I learned about and appreciate him.

He was a very humble man and he never felt better than other people and he really had taught me a lot about ego and in keeping the ego in check and in that sort of thing. The Power of Intention, I mean that's an incredible book. I've been following Abraham Hicks Probably around the equal amount of time around 20 years and I was given a cassette from a little group that I was in in Redding California and I listened to them and you know listening test or channel Abraham and it was like whoa this is really strange and weird and yet I felt good listening to it, not only the words this used but the vibration that I felt.

As a pharmaceutical rep I had a big area in California, I would drive around with a cassette recorder on my passenger seat with all these different cassettes. I was really a tuning into a different perspective, I always write whether you know you buy someone's book and you read the book while you're just going to bed at night or you're driving around the car and you listen to a podcast that bless you or you know some kind of media where you're getting a different perspective than what most people think and how most people think because that's going to help you change your perspective. If you're inundated with the news and you know things like that and around a lot of people that are negative it's very hard to get out of that space unless you do something deliberately.

Saying yes to having it all

We're going to get in it to our topic today which is, “Having it All”, or “The, Art of, Having It All” so let me give you a little bit about you know the more a little tidbit that I picked up from you know reading the synopsis of the book. Christy in your book you ask “ ?” You ask the question like a lawyer asks the question a rhetorical question that we know the answer and your answer was a resounding “YES”

Absolutely exactly right. In the, Art of Having it all, you shared precise steps you took to create radical turn arounds in the midst of potentially devastating real-life situations. Freeing yourself of nearly $90,000 of unwanted debt, 30 extra pounds, navigating the turbulent waters of divorce, and this last two are really hard for most people, the grief of your sister's suicide, and the life-threatening illness of your newborn son.

As I read that I get goose bumps on it because you know that's a lot of stuff to have to deal with and I know we've touched on the energy and most of this beforehand as we talked in your bio, and some of the questions to answered already; but can you tag on to anything that you haven't talked about. What advice you'd give out listeners who are going through, as we call it the wilderness of the storm, in their lives right now.

Absolutely all of those things that you mentioned all of them, I got through and grew from them and had them turn out even better than I could have even imagined, because of the fact that I knew about the Universal Laws and that I knew about lack and energy and Lack in abundance and, I knew about emotions and all that. I knew that I needed to focus on my perspective on, having it all, my sons, my marriage, so just even in the case of my son Maxim, when he was 2 months of age he was rushed to the hospital and he had to have open-heart surgery as a tiny little baby.

Crazy, the miracles that were around that are just like the story is incredible. Typically babies that have a transposition of the arteries are usually found in the mother's womb, they see it in the ultrasound and then they do a heart surgery on them, probably one to two days of life, two days of the latest. If they don't catch it, it's usually within you know the first week and if it's not caught within the first week babies usually die in the crib if it's not detected. Wow!

Yeah, he was two months of age and the only thing that kept him alive is he had a little hole between both of his arteries and the valve that closes when a baby typically has their first few breaths, his didn't close so he was barely breathing which we didn't realize; but he if they did ever did this type of surgery on the baby this old so it was just the fact that he was just there and he was wanting to be there.

It's like, I knew that he was going to be fine and so I went I Told my husband I'm like okay listen we can't have anybody else's negative energy we can't have fear we can't have any of this around the situation. The only visual I'm going to hold taking Maxim home with his brother Alex, And the three of you wrestling and growing up and taking vacations and taking them to Disneyland and taking him camping and you know just like all these visions absolutely.

All these different watching and play baseball and so that was the only vision. Our family was freaking out and scared, of course we had to process our own emotions because it was an emotional roller coaster; whenever we were around him we didn't let in any fear energy. We would clear ourselves before we would walk in the hospital to see him and very selective of who we let around him and stuff and we did that because it's like we just wanted to keep in the positive space we wanted to keep in that energy flow of all good things and any possibility of negativity or fear or any lower-level emotions we wanted to keep it out of the creation; because it was it was imperative.

I'm happy to say that he's now seven-year-old boy, he's been cleared for years. He's got a perfect heart. I mean the surgery that they did was two months is like growing with him it's amazing yeah just the coolest kid and you know and just very grateful I mean just amazing and you know so it's that alone you know we would sit there and deliberately write down like okay what are the positive aspects about the situation nothing will go my God your child almost died is in the hospital ICU.

How could you even look for a positive in that situation? Well for me, we had to because we had to keep our vibration high, so I would write out, how I'm grateful how I was at the best Children's Hospital in all of North America, I was grateful that we were close to home and that we had family to take care of our son Alex during the day so we could be with Maxim. Grateful that all the nurses loved him and just all the positive aspects nothing but.

It's a universal law if you're in lack and limitation you cannot create abundance from that place and so you have to get into it's the law of sufficiency and abundance, you have to get into the place of being at peace, feeling that it's sufficient, it's good enough. You don't have to be over the moon excited about it, but at least coming from that place of appreciation and gratitude looking for what's right and good and stuff what's wrong and bad and when you do that your life will continue to change contrast will show up it shows up for every single person but it's how what you do with the contrast when it happens whether it's really extreme or it's minor you know some people get really reactive and how big emotional reactions over very small things and then when things come they're just like oh my God you know so we have to know how to manage our energy.

I'm Going to redress something, I experienced suicide in my family myself. My daughter was engaged to be married, she was planning her wedding and her fiancé, shot himself and committed suicide and like you I'm a very positive person, I wouldn't say that I know how to work energy like you are because you're an expert on that, but in my life I've had a lot of challenges and you know you say that you can look at your book of wars and in my book of wars told me that almost every challenge that I faced, had a positive outcome just like you can you can see now but your son when that incident happened; but for the life of me I couldn't find the positive in that, suicide.

Now I think I'd go back in and I and I think that the positive maybe, like my pastor talked yesterday that sometimes God breaks you so that he can fit you in for your purpose. I think that my daughter came out of that situation a stronger person but at the time I couldn't find the positive, so how did you find the positive energy in your sister’s suicide? There's a lot of suicides going on right now so maybe someone is listening that can benefit from some advice on how to deal with someone close to you committing, suicide?

Dealing with suicide

This is a great question. For me I remember just feeling that I have to make a decision for myself because she chose what she chose and we can't control what other people choose, it was her life it was her decision even Abraham Hicks says that every death is really a suicide. Anyways when someone takes their own life we make it mean so much and it is shocking and it is traumatic, it's not like someone gets a disease and they get degenerative because of that and then they pass, this is something that's horrible, taking that away either but when someone abruptly ends their life in such a dramatic way it is very traumatic on everybody around them.

I would look at my sister it's like okay she chose what she chose what do I get to choose from my life? Then I started asking myself those questions. What do I want for my life? Why do I want these things? How am I going to want to feel? Really start to feel that way; but during the process I will tell you I allowed myself to feel my feelings, when I felt angry at the situation at her and anything I've processed my anger. I didn't go and beat anybody up.

I mean there's a proprietary process, anger right it's not raging it's not hurting another person but I would feel my anger. I would yell into a pillow, there's things you can do that are constructive for you that and as long as you're feeling the energy of those emotions and you're not bottling move it and I what you're saying yes yeah If I needed to cry, I would cry. I gave myself permission to cry whenever I Felt like. I needed to cry, I would excuse myself and I will go cry.

Find Your Purpose: What’s in Your Hand

Ways to find your Purpose

Are you trying to find your, purpose? Take inventory of what's in your, hand? Unfortunately God does not make your, purpose, clear, you have to check your natural gifts and talents to gain clarity.

“What's that in your, hand?” the LORD asked, Moses. Moses answered, “A staff”

The Daily Bread, “What's in your hand”

Our Daily bread puts it this way:

“If you have a tendency to despair over lost opportunities or if you worry about the future, ask yourself this question: “What is right in front of me?” In other words, what circumstances and relationships are currently available to you? This question can get your focus off a past regret or a scary future and back to what God can do in your life. What is God's intention for your life, what is your, purpose, gifts and natural abilities?”

Ways to find your Purpose
Ways to find your purpose

Finding your purpose

You may be at a crossroad in your life and want to change careers but you don’t know what you want to do. To find your, purpose, ask yourself, what do I have in my, hand? What are my gifts and natural abilities? Take inventory of your natural talents and abilities. What are you good at? What do you like to do? What have others told you that you are good at?

What did Walt Disney have in his hand when he was broke and out of a job? Answer.. he had in his hand the natural ability to Draw. That pointed him to his, purpose, of creating the “happiest place on earth”.

What did Nelson Mandela have in his hand when he was imprisoned for over 27 years in a small cell? Answer. He had the natural ability and gift to lead. His, purpose, was to lead his people out of Apartheid. God put in his hand the natural ability to forget self and work for justice for his people.

How did J.K Rowling find her, purpose? She was broke and a single parent with no support? She asked herself, How can I figure out what to do? Her answer.. she checked what she had in her hand, what was her gift and natural ability. She was an English teacher. She used her love and mastery of the English language to create a story in her mind and then put it to paper. The Harry Potter empire was born.

How I found my purpose

In my book “Out of the Snares” I share How I found my, purpose, by checking what I had in my hand. I had in my hand the ability to write and to tell a good story. I had a love of people and the compassion in my heart to want them to succeed, so I transitioned to becoming an Author and a Life coach.

If you are trying to find your, purpose, check what's in your, hand. What do you have in your, hand, that God gave you at birth to build his Kingdom?

Use what you have in your, hand. You were created with a, purpose, God gave you the skills and, talents, you need to complete your task. Stop waiting for the right time.

Check out what Propel Women article said about finding out your, purpose, by referencing the bible story of Moses and how God used what was in his, hand.

Stop asking when you are going to get your gifts or, talents, or calling and see what’s in your, hand.

But there’s a bush that is burning and, Moses,’ life is about to get flipped upside down.

What is in your hand?

Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses, threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.” [Ex. 4:1-3]

In Exodus chapter 3, Moses, had many doubts and many fears. He came up with tons of excuses. But God asked, Moses, what was in his, hand.

We know, Moses, has a shepherd’s staff in his hand, a dead thing. But then he laid it down and it became a snake. A dead thing became a living thing, and a dangerous thing at that. So dangerous in fact that, Moses, actually runs from it! God says to pick it again and it becomes a dead thing again.

Just like God told. Moses, I believe God is telling people today to lay it down. Will you not lay down your identity? Many of us are defined by our job, our education, our financial status, or marital status. But Galatians 2:19 reminds us that, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Yes, it’s no longer about me, but rather Christ who lives in me. God is saying, Let me be the one to give you identity. Find your identity in me.

Our passion is our purpose

Before we find our passion and, purpose, we must be willing to lay down our influence and recognition.

The recognition of man pales in comparison to what God has called us to. God is asking if you’re willing to lay down our dead things so he can make them come to life. Many people are living lives that are dead; it feels comfortable and safe and controllable.

But when God gives us a vision for our life like He did with Moses, we’re able to see the power God has for us, the purpose he promises us, and the plan he wants for us. It might scare us. Some might even want to run away from because it’s terrifying and they won’t know how to handle the amazing things God has for them.

My Bipolar Faith story

Dr Monica: In my book, Bipolar Faith, I tell the story of my great grandfather, my maternal grandmother's father. Whom I've never met of course, and his experience as a black man in a small town in South Carolina.  The story I tell how he decided to hang himself and had one of my great uncle help him to hang himself. My great grandfather asked my great uncle to pull the chair out from underneath him and allow him to hang.

I did not know this story until I was well into my 20s. So, it wasn't the story that I was told as a child.  Even though many people in the family knew what my grandmother meant when she talked about being orphaned or having her parents die at a very young age.  Her mother died from complications with childbirth. And then she said, six months later, my father died. And so, I understand how she came to that conclusion, that there was this deep sadness that leads this kind of activity.

This was actually just part of my family's story that was talked about in these metaphorical ways, rather than in more direct ways. So, I think it shaped me in the sense of, there was something in me that knew that you could get so sad you will die.

That deep grief kills.

BEING BLACK IS TRAUMATIC ENOUGH!!!, “Walk A Painful Mile In Our Agony Shoes” is an untraditional new style of poetry. The books’ theme is based on being black in a America. With over 40 poems and pictures depicting black love, black unity, black creativity, black self-hate, black struggle, discrimination and mental Illness and other more personal poems. This book was very emotional for the author to write because each poem is tied to the emotions felt before, during and after the Black Lives Matter protest.

Some examples of poems: “MAGNIFICENT YOU”, acknowledging and appreciating black women. “BLACK MAN, BLACK MAN”, is an acknowledgement of black men's worth, the need to unite and the need to stop killing one another.

Grief and faith

And I think this is a kind of backdrop to a lot of the many other things that I ended up talking about in “Bipolar Faith” as it's my story.  I am also hoping that other people see themselves in the story in ways in which, poverty and class and war and sharecropping and the effects of slavery and all types of things, contribute to what we would now call, mental illness.

Being black in America, is very complicated. And a lot of times people aren't stopping to ask “How do you feel?” And so, a big part of this book is really trying to shine a light on, mental illness. Having people ask,

  • How are you doing?
  • How are we feeling?
  • How are you managing these various things that we know that we all manage?

And so, I would say that's really where I was going to push through and I think it became a part of my calling whether I was not aware of it all.

It is important to talk about these things, whether that's around issues of, sexual violence, or, domestic violence, or issues around, depression, and, mental health.

We inherit mental illness from our ancestors

Myrna: This is so true, we inherit the blessing of our ancestors, and we inherit the, curses, of our ancestors.

Dr Monica: I don't want to quite use that language of, blessings, and, curses. But yes, we inherit what our ancestors have.  We can get the bad stuff and the good stuff, we get the things we would rather live without and we get a lot of their, survival techniques, and their joint, faith, as well. And you know, when I think we you know, so in the fact that we get genetically right isn't new or knowledge, but the fact that it's kind of part of who we are and it shapes us and part of our experiences and put up our family stories that we've known for a long time.

My great grandfather could have been depressed and that is why he decided to commit suicide, no one was giving a clinical diagnosis of, depression, in that time period.  So, what I want to say  it's not about checking the boxes and saying that is what he had, because maybe it was the grief of losing his wife and being like oh, my gosh, I have to take care of these eight, nine kids, that's overwhelmed for anybody plus  sharecropping and, racism. I'm saying I think it's all of those things. I don't think you can say, oh, let's take one out.

Bipolar faith of Black Women in America

Myrna: I understand the horrible things that our ancestors had to go through.  So, you have something like, mental illness, or, depression, or something like that. But this segues right into the next question I have here. You say that, Black women, we've been overlooked, black women, in the United States. What do you think, Black women, have been overlooked?

Dr Monica: I've seen things change a lot in the last five years, but for the last five to 10 years, there's so much more conversation.  I would say, since the COVID pandemic, everybody's got some kind of, depression. I mean, we think about how we talk about political movements, and the political activism and the voting power of, black women, and the sense that we're going to hold it all together, we're going to raise a family, go to work, do all things.

And oh, by the way, while you're doing that, there's I think, still is very much expectation that if you're able to do the things and handle business and make ends meet, that you're okay or even better, that you're better than okay that you're strong.

There's very much a sense that if you are a person of, faith, then you should be fine. And you should be okay. You shouldn't have challenges and problems and we have specific expressions that actually imply that.  We all need some help, and I am thrilled to see more of those conversations, but I think they're still very much sensitive to that.

The Superwoman Syndrome and the Black Woman

Myrna: I got to circle back on that the first one was the, Superwoman, tendency of, black women. And you’re right, black women, they're raising children and a lot of times there's no man and so they're holding down two or three jobs and, and they pride themselves on being, Superwoman. In fact, my mom was one of them. She raised four children by herself, had two or three jobs, I came around and did the same thing.  I would say, I can look after my kids, my mom did it, that's the, Superwoman, tendency that we can do it because we’re strong.

White women, they all have husbands and who may stay home to look after their kids by choice.  The second part of a circle back is that you're saying that the, superwoman, syndrome creates some kind of, mental illness, and, depression,  they should go to a doctor and get a checkup.  What are you leading to with that?

Dr Monica: My friend and colleague Dr. Chanequa Walker Barnes has written a wonderful book about chocolate the strong black woman is called “Too Heavy A Yoke,” I highly recommend.  Whether it's legacies of war and poverty, these are also the ways in which black families look on legacies of slavery. And in the United States even the enslavement has manifested in parts of the African diaspora in terms of how families are structured. Even the policies and practices around what family structures look like.

Therapy wasn't always covered by insurance, but I think it's getting better. There are more, black therapists, and more culturally competent therapists who will understand all that people are bringing in terms of their racialized and gendered experiences.

I was raped by a fellow minister

Myrna: In, Bipolar Faith, you kind of cut yourself open and talk about some, some personal issues and personal things and you're sharing so you can help others. So, you share some very intimate details of your life, such as living with, depression, yourself and also being raped by a fellow minister. How did that experience effect your, faith? Was there a time where you know you're angry with God?

Dr. Coleman:  I think experiences of deep suffering cause all of us to have, at the very least a hiccup in our, faith, walk. You're going to have some kind of pain, whether it is the kinds of, traumas, that I discussed. There's going to be some level of suffering and no one likes it. No one's ready for it.  Nobody wants to suffer. It's not a part of the human experience that we're happy about or that we're going to welcome and say, hey, let's have some pain here.

There are levels of grief. That's all part of our life and because our spirituality and our, faith, is part of our life, it's part of our, faith, as well. And for some people, faith, is very helpful and instrumental and holding them up and they find great resonance in the, faith community, and a lot of support there. But at some point, people don't ask why me? Why someone I know and love died? I need some answers here.

Deezer Transform Your Mind Podcast

Crisis of Faith

We act like asking why is a problem like it's a crisis of, bipolar faith, and you're not supposed to do it? Why do I have to do this? Why is this happening? Why it's happening to my people? It's a very natural part of the spiritual life to ask why. I think what doesn't happen very often is people don't always say, you're going to lose the, faith.

And that's okay. For a lot of times, there's a sense that losing your, faith, is the end of the world and it is like heresy or some terrible thing.  We've all lost, faith, at least once, maybe 2-3-4 times. And it is our responsibility, I would say as a, faith community, to stay with you while you find it again, and to hold the space for you, to walk with you to hold you and bring you food.

Until you and God find your way back to each other or something like that. Because of course we don't have the same, faith, we had as five-year-olds. We don't have the same, faith, we had as 15-year-olds, because we've seen more and we've grown more, we've evolved and had different kinds of experiences.

Doesn't mean I don't have a relationship with God. I don't have a, faith community, but that's not what it looks like anymore. And so yes, it definitely caused me to have some questions and to be angry and to say, what I've been taught, is not matching up with what I'm experiencing, and I'm trying to figure this out. So, I kept changing, faith communities, until I found one that was able to hold that space of, faith, for me.

Does Depression follow grief

Myrna: So, my circle back to that is when did you become, depressed?

Dr Monica: I really can't quite pinpoint when did I become depressed or say Oh, well I have this very deep grief, my grandmother died when I was 13 years old. I named it as, depression. You know, my family negative, depression. I didn't come up in a context where people were like, Let's label this as, depression. Let's give you some therapy. That came much later. But that's how a lot many black families were in the 70s and 80s. No one said, let's go to therapy like white people do.

Oh, yes, I can look back and say this was, depression. I felt that there were definitely some challenges and hard places in life. That made me sad, but to me, I was like, well, sadness is the appropriate response to some of these things. And I would later have clinicians say, well, most people feel sad in this way and you seem to be sad in a deeper way. And I'm like, oh, because I don't know most people only know me from the inside.

Making a Way out of No Way

In many ways, I would say “Making A Way Out Of No Way” is the theory behind, Bipolar Faith.  So, Bipolar Faith, is my story.  It's the story of my family. And I like to think that there is there's some gray threads that feel like an African American story, it presents like an American story.  And I think Making A Way Out Of No Way is the belief system that's behind, Bipolar Faith.  This is what I believe about community, what I believe about salvation and that salvation in the what gets us to heaven.

Salvation is the root word set out to heal, to be evolved and to make us well.  Salvation is what I believe helps us to be whole and helps us to do well. And then it is making a way out of no way.  But it's really not no way, it's just a way we can't see.  And that's where the God part comes in. It's, you know, God and hopefully us as you know, as creative people's humanity and the rest of creation, working together to in the best of worlds to make the world a better place. Transforming creative ways.

Myrna: So that's great, it's like, blind faith. Of us knowing that regardless of how bleak it looks right now, that God is going to make a way out of no way tomorrow.  Joy comes in the morning kind of thing kind of thing. So, I like that. So, do you feel that your story and, Bipolar Faith, you said that was the foundational principle? Do you feel that that is how your life progressed, that you had the spiritual power, that propelled you along and God always made a way for you to prosper?

Dr Monica: I'm not even sure if I'm prospering, I think I'm doing meaningful and I would even say needful work. Trying to creatively transform what we got, whatever we've inherited, into something better. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's this is what we got to work with, to transform what we have into creative ways. To make the world a better place.
